Last October, our daughter Zosia fell off a climbing frame while playing at the playground. We were very scared, so we went straight to the emergency room. Exams of her head and abdomen showed no cause for concern. This brought us immense relief and allowed us to return to our peaceful daily routine.
A few weeks later, she fell off the couch and immediately threw up. In addition, she began to stagger when walking, experienced morning sickness, and her eyes were rolling strangely.
Fear and helplessness
At the end of 2025, we were dealt a devastating blow—our little Zosia was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DMG/DIPG). Time was of the essence. As early as the beginning of December, Zosia underwent a procedure to implant a vascular port at the Pediatric Surgery Clinic in Szczecin and immediately began radiation therapy. A few months later, seeking every possible chance for our daughter, we decided to take another difficult step. At the Clinic of Pediatrics, Hematology, and Pediatric Oncology in Szczecin, Zosia underwent a procedure to collect cerebrospinal fluid for a liquid biopsy. The purpose of this test was to thoroughly examine the tumor’s genetic profile. Every day we spent waiting for these results was filled with paralyzing fear and helplessness. Unfortunately, the biopsy did not allow us to determine the tumor’s profile. This devastated us, but we are not giving up—we are continuing to seek out new possibilities and solutions.
Therapy
Since the lesion was detected, her daughter has undergone many treatments. She has had radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and steroid therapy. Zosia’s body reacted differently to each of these treatments.
We are currently in contact with specialists in the United States and are discussing the possibility of enrolling our daughter in an international clinical trial.
In addition, Zosia also struggles with a severe food allergy and epilepsy.
Small joys
Our daughter is very curious about the world; she loves spending time at the beach, collecting seashells and pretty pebbles, and building sandcastles. However, her greatest passion is books—she can listen to stories about her favorite characters for hours every day.
Costly therapy
We are currently awaiting a checkup scheduled for late August or early September, which will show whether the current treatment is effective. Doctors abroad have recommended that if the tumor grows, it will be necessary to start treatment with ONC201 and/or Everolimus. This is a very expensive treatment, and we are unable to bear this financial burden on our own.
In addition, our daughter needs specialized physical therapy to maintain her mobility, which is why we are asking for your support. Every zloty, every time you share this fundraiser, and every kind thought brings us closer to what matters most: Zosia’s health.
