A diagnosis that had long eluded doctors
The first sign was rapid, unexplained weight loss. Weronika felt increasingly weak, but her tests showed only anemia. Despite numerous visits and tests over many months, the cause could not be found, and her body weight dropped to just 42 kilograms. It wasn’t until June 2025, after an ultrasound at a hospital in Kalisz, that alarming changes were noticed. Further imaging tests showed that the situation required urgent diagnosis, and Weronika was referred to a gynecologic oncologist in Poznań.
The Life-Saving Surgery
Everything happened very quickly; just a few days after the consultation, Weronika underwent extensive life-saving surgery. The source of the disease was removed along with the affected organs and all visible cancerous lesions. The procedure lasted many hours, placed a tremendous strain on her body, and left a scar nearly thirty centimeters long. For a long time, Weronika was unable to function independently or perform even the simplest daily activities.
Extensive treatment and its consequences
After the surgery, Weronika underwent six cycles of chemotherapy, which proved to be very taxing. Due to severe anemia and other complications, subsequent cycles had to be postponed repeatedly, and her treatment required numerous transfusions and hospitalizations. Although the chemotherapy has ended, her treatment continues. Weronika remains under constant oncological care; she goes for checkups every three months and continues maintenance therapy, which is intended to reduce the risk of recurrence. Each checkup brings immense stress and anxiety about the future.
A loss that is hard to come to terms with
The illness robbed Weronika of something that many young people take for granted: a sense of security and the freedom to dream about the future. The hardest part is knowing that she will never be able to become a mother. Motherhood was her greatest dream, which is why this loss remains a wound she is still learning to live with. On top of that, she faces mental health challenges every day as she struggles to maintain her inner balance. Despite this, Weronika doesn’t give up, and every morning she finds the strength anew to keep going.
Loved ones who give her strength
Weronika’s greatest source of support is her partner, who helps her with her daily responsibilities, accompanies her to appointments and tests, and stands by her side during the hardest moments. She can also count on her immediate family, for whom her illness was a tremendous blow. Her youngest siblings, not fully understanding what cancer is, keep asking with concern if Wera will get better yet; these childlike words are both touching and painful. It is precisely the love of her closest family that gives Weronika the strength to keep fighting.
Dreams he wants to return to
Before her illness, Weronika was full of plans. She is interested in cosmetology and dreams of pursuing a career in this field in the future—specifically, studying skincare and makeup. She also loves to travel and discover new places, and above all, she values the time she spends with her partner and family. Her biggest dream today is to regain her health, return to her studies, and once again find joy in the things that used to be part of her everyday life.
