Update
Finally some good news!
We are very happy to share the information about the results of the treatment undertaken. The tumors on the leg are visibly shrinking, and the lesion in the abdominal cavity has decreased by as much as half! This is a huge relief for us and a ray of hope for further improvement.Less and less pain
Until recently, leg pains were a daily occurrence and took away strength."Today we can say that the pain has completely subsided. This is the first time in a long time that our child can breathe more peacefully. We still have a long way to go, but this stage shows that the treatment is working, and every day brings a real chance for recovery. Thank you for being with us."-Parents
July 14, 2025 We are fighting to save Veronika's leg❗. A fierce battle is underway to save Veronika's leg! As a result of a very dangerous and serious disease, neurofibromatosis type 1, the girl's right lower limb is in a deplorable condition. In 2018, she underwent surgery to block the growth cartilages of the distal femur and proximal tibia. A year later, the plates responsible for the blockage were removed, and doctors decided on another blockage. Veronika's right leg is now about 5 centimeters longer than her left. The right foot is limp. A GRAFO-type orthosis was recommended, but unfortunately, due to the leg's swelling and extreme pain, it did not pass the test. These are not the only health problems facing our Warrior Woman. In March 2023, an MRI scan of her head revealed a tumor in the retropharyngeal space and in her left ear, where the girl now has hearing loss. A few months later, she underwent a tonsillectomy, or removal of the palatine tonsils. This was done to clear the airways. The tumor currently cannot be excised due to the excessive risk of such an operation. The procedure itself was performed at the Mikulicz-Radecki Clinical Hospital in Wroclaw. Our intrepid Warrior also suffers from glaucoma and astigmatism. Numerous Lisch nodules, nodular lesions of the iris, characteristic of patients with neurofibromatosis type 1, have appeared in Weronika's eyes. The sum of all health problems causes the girl to have great difficulty with mobility. For shorter distances she assists herself with elbow crutches, while for longer trips a wheelchair is essential. Veronika's great passion is horses. As a result, she participates in paid hippotherapy classes. Intensive rehabilitation is also necessary, as the girl's physical form is severely neglected by prolonged hospital stays and a serious illness. A follow-up visit to the Spine and Orthopedic Clinic in Poznan has been set for June 2025. During this stay, doctors will evaluate and consider various surgical treatment options for Veronika's right leg. We encourage you to continue to support this brave family! Veronika has come an extremely long and hard way, she did not give up despite the gigantic difficulties and continues to fight with a smile on her face for a better future. September 20, 2024
Explore the history of
It is an inherited disease arising from mutations in the NF1 gene, also known as neurofibromatosis type 1.
It manifests itself in a wide variety of forms; in our Warrior, it causes hypertrophy of the right side of the body and contracture of the right leg at the knee.
In 2019, our client underwent surgery to remove a tumor from her foot. Due to the location of the tumor (on the underside of the foot), Veronika's movement was extremely difficult. The surgery was successful, and the wound healed quickly and nicely. Our Warrior Woman was able to leave the hospital a few days later and return home. About six months later, she underwent a check-up, which showed no abnormalities. Shortly thereafter, the pandemic began, which interrupted the girl's treatment.
The following months continued to be demanding for Veronika's family, and the parents meticulously monitored their daughter's health and checked for further worrisome symptoms. Unfortunately, in mid-2022, our charge's leg began to swell again, and the tumors returned and were visible to the naked eye. Concerned parents undertook a medical consultation, and shortly thereafter diagnostic tests confirmed their worst fears - recurrence of the disease.
Weronika returned to the hospital, this time in Poznan. Doctors there decided to transfer the girl to Wroclaw's "Cape of Hope", where the proper treatment began. Here the decision was made to introduce chemotherapy, which is scheduled to last about two years.
Our Warrior is a very intelligent and aware girl. She understands the difficult situation she is in and bravely faces the next challenges. She is able to take care of herself and pays great attention to controlling her health. She dreams of returning to normalcy, but needs our support to do so. Her future is a great unknown, but together we can color it in beautiful colors!
