Diagnosis at the Start of Motherhood
Joanna’s treatment began in the spring of 2026, when she received a difficult diagnosis: triple-negative breast cancer—one of the most challenging types of cancer—with metastasis to the lymph nodes. Fortunately, a PET scan showed no further metastases beyond the lymph nodes. This was an important source of hope at the start of her battle.
Treatment scheduled to last for many months
So far, Joanna has undergone many cycles of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The treatment has taken a heavy toll on her, as she has experienced allergic reactions, fevers, vomiting, loss of appetite, and general weakness, and her weakened immune system has required additional injections to support her bone marrow. Joanna still has a long road ahead of her: more cycles of chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, and continued immunotherapy, followed by reconstruction, further procedures, and hormone therapy. It’s a plan that spans years and will require tremendous perseverance on her part.
Motherhood in the shadow of illness
The hardest part of all this for Joanna is that her illness comes between her and her little daughter. Trips for chemotherapy that last a day or two, combined with fatigue and the need to recover, mean she can’t always be with her child as much as she’d like, and resting while caring for an infant isn’t easy. The illness has also robbed her of the ability to work. Previously, she grew and sold organic vegetables, fruits, and preserves. There are days when she lacks the strength even for further treatment, but as she herself says, she has someone to live for. It is her little daughter, her husband, and her loved ones who give her the strength to fight.
Passions Close to Nature
Joanna loves nature, the outdoors, and animals. She used to be passionate about hairdressing, but today she enjoys baking and decorating cakes and pastries, growing vegetables, and making preserves from fruit from her own orchard. It is these simple joys—close to the earth and her home—that remind her of the life she longs to return to with all her heart.
Let's help Joanna make this long journey
The funds raised will help Joanna cover the costs of frequent and long commutes to the hospital—which she will have to make for years to come—as well as psychological support, additional private medical tests, and medications and treatments to alleviate the burdensome side effects of her treatment. Every donation provides real relief for Joanna and gives her greater peace of mind, allowing her to focus on her recovery and on what matters most to her: being a mom to her little girl. Let’s help her get through this long journey and return to the life that awaits her.
