The Day the World Stood Still
On April 14, 2026, the whole family’s world came to a standstill. The diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia in ten-year-old Martyna meant that all their previous plans no longer mattered. From that day on, only one thing mattered: the fight for the girl’s health.
Three cycles of chemotherapy and a long road ahead
Martyna has already undergone three cycles of chemotherapy, each of which took a heavy toll on her. The treatment required numerous procedures: repeated insertion of central lines, punctures, and biopsies, as well as nutritional support. It has been accompanied by the typical, debilitating side effects of the therapy: weakness, nausea, and other complications. Martyna still has a long and demanding road ahead of her: more tests, visits to specialists, rehabilitation, and treatment designed to help her safely get through her therapy and recover.
The hospital that became a second home
Since the day of her diagnosis, Martyna and her parents have been staying in the pediatric hematology ward practically nonstop. The hospital walls have become their everyday reality. The illness has turned their family life upside down and separated their loved ones. The hardest part, however, is the emotional toll: the fear for their child’s life, the uncertainty, and the longing for home that accompany the family every day. There are days when Martyna herself is so brave that she gives the adults hope. But there are also days when she simply asks, “Mom, when are we going home?” At moments like these, it breaks your heart, because no one knows the answer yet.
A girl who longs for a normal childhood
Martyna is a lively little girl who loves to draw, ride horses, and swim, and she has always enjoyed her classes at the community center. For a long time, she dreamed of having a puppy, and it is that puppy—along with her room and a normal childhood—that she misses most today. She longs with all her heart to return to that world, full of crayons, laughter, and carefree days.
Let's help Martyna get her childhood back
The funds raised will go toward everything that will help Martyna safely get through her treatment and recover—non-reimbursable medications, tests, visits to specialists, rehabilitation, hygiene supplies, and transportation to the hospital. Every donation provides Martyna with real support in this difficult battle and brings her one step closer to the day when she can once again simply be a child: drawing, playing with her dream dog, and enjoying her room. Let’s help her return to the childhood that was cut short.
