It all started in 2016. My daughter Ania, who was 4 years old at the time, began to develop strange light-brown spots on her skin. In addition, her ankle became severely swollen. I was very concerned about the situation, so I quickly made an appointment for her to see a doctor.
The doctor listened to me and then examined Ania. I remember that moment as if it were yesterday, when, with a serious look on his face, he told me about his suspicions and gave me referrals for further tests.
Diagnosis
When the time came to learn my daughter’s diagnosis, I was very scared. I kept trying to believe that it wasn’t anything serious and that we’d be back to our normal daily routine in no time. However, the reality was different. Ania was diagnosed with type 1 neurofibromatosis.
In addition, Ania is also dealing with other medical conditions. She has epilepsy, an optic nerve glioma, a hiatal hernia, and non-acid reflux. She has also undergone many surgeries in her life, such as the removal of a neurofibroma and the removal of a venous malformation in a joint.
My Little Girl's Strength
Despite all this, Ania still manages to smile. Sometimes I look at her and can’t understand where she gets that strength from—that quiet, inexplicable courage with which she goes through each stage of her treatment. She’s very brave.
In her free time, my daughter loves to sing, listen to music, and dance. On good days, she rides her bike or hangs out with friends. These are the little things that help her escape her difficult reality.
We need your support
Ania is currently enrolled in the Koselugo drug program, and we have follow-up appointments every three months. Because of my daughter’s health, I can’t work. I’m always there for her whenever she needs me. I hold her hand, help her push away negative thoughts, and we talk a lot. Meanwhile, my husband works to provide us with everything we need.
However, these are very large sums that we are unable to cover on our own. Visits to specialists and transportation are very expensive, which is why we are asking for your support. We will be immensely grateful for any gesture of kindness toward us.
