It started with subtle symptoms
In June 2022, Kornelia started having trouble spitting up after feedings. We took her to a hospital in Poznań, where she was diagnosed with a norovirus infection.
A month later, we noticed small bumps on her tiny body. They would appear and disappear. At first, I didn’t suspect anything serious, but when three new lesions appeared on Kornelia’s head, I became anxious. Kornelia’s father had suffered from lymphoblastic leukemia as a child, so the doctors decided to examine Kornelia for cancer. Shortly thereafter, the doctor delivered the diagnosis I had feared so much: medulloblastoma.

Another diagnosis
The doctors decided to remove the tumor. From that point on, Kornelia was under the constant care of the oncology clinic. Frequent infections, weakness, and fear of what each new day would bring became our daily reality.
In December 2023, Kornelia had a severe case of chickenpox. Afterward, she developed a cold that wouldn’t go away. I felt that something was wrong with my daughter. A few months later, the doctors decided to perform another bone marrow test.
I remember that day very clearly. The silence in the office, the doctors’ expressions, and the moment I heard my daughter’s latest diagnosis: acute myeloid leukemia. In an instant, everything came to a standstill, and there was only one question in my mind: why my daughter again?
Treatment and transplantation
After chemotherapy , she developed a number of complications: staphylococcal infection, shingles, sepsis, fungal infections, and pneumonia. The doctors decided to perform a bone marrow transplant. This was followed by further complications. Each one placed an additional strain on my daughter’s body, which was still recovering from the intensive treatment.
The fight isn't over yet
Today, Kornelia is under the constant care of the clinic. Her body still hasn’t regained its strength. She is very weak. She receives immunoglobulins regularly, and every day brings great uncertainty as to whether her test results will finally start to improve.
A life dominated by treatment
Kornelia’s illness has turned our family’s life upside down. I had to quit my job to be with my daughter in the hospital, hold her hand, and support her as best I can. Kornelia’s dad had to put his business on hold, so the funds raised will also help cover our basic living expenses, allowing us to focus on our daughter’s recovery.
In between treatments, Kornelia finds peace by drawing her favorite animals—rabbits—playing with building blocks, and watching cartoons. Since her diagnosis, my daughter has become very withdrawn. I see sadness in her eyes and a longing for a carefree everyday life.
Kornelia has an older sister and brother who call their little sister whenever they can. Every call gives them a little bit of that sense of normalcy we all long to return to.
Please support me
I am asking for your help with all my heart. Our apartment is not suited to Kornelia’s current needs. Following her bone marrow transplant, my daughter’s body requires a sterile and easy-to-maintain environment. In addition, Kornelia needs rehabilitation after her intensive treatment.
I will be very grateful for every kind thought and every bit of help.
