Persistent itching of the body
It all started very inconspicuously in March. Kuba began complaining of persistent itching all over his body. We noticed that it got worse especially during times of increased stress, such as when school exams were approaching. We thought it was either his body’s reaction to stress or an allergy.
Concerned, I took Kuba for allergy testing. The results showed he was allergic to dust and cat dander. We don’t have any pets at home, and we keep our house clean, so it was hard for us to understand where his symptoms were coming from. Antiallergic medications brought only a slight improvement. We were glad that they helped at least a little, but at the same time, we felt that this didn’t explain everything.
Another symptom of the disease
Shortly thereafter, another worrying symptom appeared: a noticeable change in my son’s groin. The doctors ruled out a hernia, although that had been the initial suspicion. Instead of answers, there were even more questions and even greater fear.
It was a very difficult time. My husband and I were living from one test to the next, from one doctor’s visit to the next. The uncertainty was probably the worst part. We just wanted to know what was happening to our son and how we could help him.
Diagnosis
After some time, we were admitted to Przylądek Nadziei in Wrocław. Kuba underwent a series of specialized tests there. We waited two weeks for the results, hoping to hear good news. Instead, we received a diagnosis that brought our world to a standstill: Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Kuba spent his 16th birthday in the hospital. Instead of celebrating with his family and friends, he began the toughest battle of his life. His first round of chemotherapy began in early June.
Family support
These days, our daily routine consists of regular trips to Cape of Hope. Kuba and I go there for the next stages of his treatment, and then we come home for a few days to regain our strength before our next stay at the clinic.
I’m with my son all the time, which is why I’m on sick leave. Our 12-year-old daughter, Ala, is at home, where her dad takes care of her every day. Our grandparents are also a huge support to us. Their help allows us to get through this incredibly difficult time and focus on what matters most right now: Kuba’s health.
Sports
Not long ago, Kuba couldn't sit still. Sports were an integral part of his life. He loved playing basketball, going to the gym, and spending his free time playing video games and building with LEGO bricks. Today, his daily life looks completely different, but he still dreams of returning to his passions and a normal life.
We need your support
The costs associated with our son’s treatment are enormous. Despite our best efforts, we are unable to cover all the expenses on our own. That is why we are asking for your support with all our hearts. Every contribution and every time you share our story gives Kuba a better chance of getting through his treatment smoothly and making a full recovery.
Thank you for all the help you've given us and for standing with us in this fight.
