Self-examination

The last week of January, just a routine self-exam. This routine had never frightened me before, but this time my fingers stopped on something unusual. There was a small lump in my right breast. In an instant, I felt anxiety wash over my entire body. I didn’t wait; I knew I had to act. The doctor’s appointment came quickly, and with it came more troubling news.

I had a biopsy in early February. The days between the test and the results seemed to drag on forever. Then came the diagnosis—words I will never forget: breast cancer.

Further decisions

I hadn’t even had time to come to terms with what the doctor had told me when, on March 19, I was already lying on the operating table. A mastectomy with reconstruction of my right breast. It was a difficult decision, but on the other hand, it gave me hope. I knew it was a step in the right direction.

After the surgery, I received more news. I’ve been approved for hormone therapy. This will be the next stage in my fight against cancer. I know I have a long road to recovery ahead of me, but I’m not giving up.

Today, the effects of the treatment are a constant part of my daily life that I simply can’t ignore. Fatigue is my constant companion throughout the day. The hardest moments come after I take the hormone. That’s when I suddenly feel a huge drop in energy, making even the smallest tasks a challenge. I have to lie down then.

I miss the simple everyday routine

These days, time passes very differently. Much more slowly. I’m at home on sick leave, and my career and studies have had to take a back seat. But what I miss most is my work. Before I got sick, I worked with children. Their honesty, curiosity about the world, and energy were like a light that brightened even the most ordinary days.

I’m not alone in all this. My husband and daughter are my greatest source of support; they’re with me whenever they can. Little gestures, a hug, and a conversation mean so much to me. Their presence is very important to me, and I appreciate it immensely.

Before the illness appeared

I used to love being active, especially cycling, which gave me a great sense of freedom. I loved feeling the wind in my hair. Although my illness has changed a lot, it hasn’t taken everything away from me. I still have my own little worlds in the books I read. And scrapbooking gives me a moment of creativity during the day. Today, my daily life moves at a completely different pace than before. My days are filled with much more peace and quiet.

Please support me

I’m very afraid of what tomorrow will bring. At first, I thought I could handle this burden on my own, but I need the help of a psychologist and a psychiatrist. I would also like to undergo a preventive mastectomy of my left breast and have comprehensive genetic testing done for myself and my daughter. The funds raised will also help me in my recovery process.

Today, my life is full of moments that require strength. That is why I am asking for your help. Every bit of support means the world to me and brings me closer to being able to live the way I used to.
