Disturbing pain in the legs

It all started in 2018, when our son Wiktor began having pain in his legs. We were very concerned, so we decided to see our primary care physician right away. Our son was prescribed antibiotics.

We had hoped it was a one-time thing, that it would all blow over soon and things would go back to the way they were. Unfortunately, the pain only got worse.

Diagnosis

After our son underwent an abdominal ultrasound, it turned out that his spleen and liver were enlarged. The doctors immediately referred us to a hospital in Kielce. There, after a series of tests, we heard something that brought our world to a standstill. The diagnosis was acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

We were overcome by unimaginable fear, helplessness, and disbelief. Everything that had seemed important up to that point suddenly lost all meaning.

The chemotherapy treatment lasted two years, and things slowly started to get back on track. The illness was behind us, and we were once again able to enjoy Wiktor’s good health.

Follow-up examinations in 2023

During one of the follow-up visits in 2023, we received another alarming piece of news. Tests showed a drop in our son’s hemoglobin levels. We returned to the oncology ward in Kielce, where we were told that treatment would resume.

Our son went back to treatment. Hospital rooms, long hallways, and frequent tests once again became part of our daily lives. In October 2025, the treatment was completed. Our fear slowly faded, Wiktor regained his strength, and it seemed to us that the worst was behind us.

Difficult everyday life

In February of this year, we received news of another relapse. I am currently staying with my son at Przylądek Nadziei in Wrocław, where we are waiting for a bone marrow transplant scheduled for July.

At home, our 2-year-old son Wiktor is waiting for us; he doesn't understand what's going on. He misses us very much. My husband is taking care of him and supporting us as best he can.

Small Passions

Before he got sick, Wiktor was always smiling and had a million ideas a minute. He loved playing video games and building with LEGO bricks. Soccer has always been his greatest passion. He enjoyed watching the games of the local team, Korona Kielce. He’s also a huge fan of FC Barcelona.

We need help

Because of our son’s illness, I am unable to work. Right now, our son Wiktor’s health is our top priority. Unfortunately, the costs of his treatment are very high, and we are unable to cover them on our own. We need help as we navigate this difficult journey.
