The body is weakening...
Chronic weakness, dizziness, recurrent infections and bruises appearing on the body without knowing from where or when. That's how it started, and that's how it became impossible to function. Deteriorating health eventually led the teenager to a hematology clinic in Katowice, Poland.
Urgent diagnostics gave a concrete answer that left no room for any "or maybe it's not that after all."
When a diagnosis paralyzes...
Pauline was diagnosed with a rare and extremely serious disease - severe bone marrow aplasia. This is the drama of a body that stops producing - life - overnight!
Blood stops forming...
Pauline 's bone marrow aplasia took an exceptionally severe turn.
The bone marrow has stopped producing blood cells:
- Red (responsible for oxygen transport),
- White (which protects against infections)
- Platelets (which provide clotting).
Without them , Pauline's immune system, simply stopped functioning. Today, any infection becomes potentially fatal.
The daily struggle for life
Paulinka is undergoing successive cycles of therapy with great humility and courage. Treatment includes strong immunosuppressive drugs, frequent blood transfusions and regular hospitalizations. She also requires constant monitoring, expensive tests and protection from infections. It's a lengthy process that is physically, mentally and financially taxing. Paulina understands that without treatment, the disease will not give her a chance for a future and a colorful - beautiful - adolescence, a foretaste of which came with the start of high school. That's why she bravely endures isolation with the hope that it will work out.
