Oliwier struggles to get back into shape❗ Oliwier continues his journey for health! He continues to take medications to keep his platelet levels in check. As soon as he doesn't take them, the platelets drop. He is currently taking alternating smaller and larger doses to keep the levels stable. In addition, over the Warrior supports himself with liver medication, takes iron and vitamins. Genetic testing has revealed Gilbert Syndrome in Oliver. This is a genetically determined liver disease. In some cases, it can cause increased jaundice. The teenager therefore remains under the close care of doctors and has to regularly monitor his health. Our Warrior's treatment is heading in the right direction and Olivier is increasingly able to get on his favorite bicycle, indulging in long bike rides around his home neighborhood. Let's give him some more support to maintain the good attitude with which he is currently moving bravely forward! August 13, 2024
Explore the history of
The disease suddenly manifested itself when petechiae and bruises appeared on his body after exertion in physical education classes.
Our Warrior was taken to the hospital in his hometown and after a few days was referred to the "Cape of Hope" in Wroclaw, where a number of tests were performed. Thrombocytopenia was diagnosed. This is a dangerous disease, because it is impossible to predict when the platelet level in the blood will drop, causing a threat to the boy's life - and this happens often.
Olivier was hospitalized and received intravenous immunoglobulins or steroids, as well as platelets, which were needed for the biopsy. He was qualified for a drug program and received injections once a week, which unfortunately only helped for a short time. He also took pills, unfortunately also without effect.
The disease is causing him to miss out on the life of a "typical teenager." His condition is a real rollercoaster - when he gets the drug, his platelet levels rise rapidly. Then the medicine has to be discontinued, which causes an unforeseen drop. It becomes necessary to administer steroids - and so "over and over". Only when the platelets are normal can he think about going to the dentist or such a mundane activity for a teenager as exercise in physical education classes.
Despite the need to do research even 2-3 times a week, he does not stop pursuing his passions. The biggest of these is his passion for trains - he loves to watch, photograph and record them, and has an impressive knowledge of them! In order to deepen his passion, he used to go on bicycle trips, during which he observed different types of locomotives. He recently discovered a weakness for fishing, about which he can talk for hours! In addition, he loves watching soccer games and actively cheering on his favorite teams - as long as his health allows, which, unfortunately, is rare.
In addition to regular checkups, Olivier needs to have an eye exam every six months. When the level of platelets in his body drops, blood petechiae and bruises appear on Olivier's body, he suddenly "gets" extremely tired. As a result, the boy's Mom has to be very vigilant and react quickly to any alarming situation.
Oliver is kind, intelligent, helpful - simply loved. He would like to return to normalcy to enjoy his childhood. Any support is greatly appreciated by the boy and his family.
