Update

Natalka's overall health is good, but she often develops complications from various infections or sudden drops in blood parameters. As a result of these problems, she has developed hemolysis, which requires regular morphology checks. In addition to scheduled visits to Cape Hope, tests must also be performed locally, at our home, sometimes as often as twice a week. Each time, Natalka bravely endures the needle pricks, even though it is not easy. Frequent check-ups at Cape of Hope often end up with a few days or even longer hospital stay. Despite these difficulties, Natalka is full of smiles, and we, the whole family, are doing everything we can to get her back to full health as soon as possible. Since September, her peers have returned to kindergarten, and Natalka has started individualized instruction in kindergarten, implemented at home. She is aware that she has to go through this difficult period for her health, and we try to support her every step of the way. Although she misses her classmates very much, she knows that the day will come when she can play and spend time with them again. She bravely fights every day, and we will do everything in our power to help her do so. October 9, 2024 Brave Natalka does not give up in the fight for life❗. Natalka continues her fierce battle for recovery. Currently, she is feeling much better, although there are also sometimes weaker days. Our charge is under the constant care of doctors, who monitor her health during weekly visits. Unfortunately, due to her still lowered immunity, these "short" visits often turn into longer stays at the "Cape of Hope", where Natalia continues her treatment. Any infection, however minor, still poses quite a threat to her health. Our charge is already after the removal of the central puncture, the so-called Broviac. The prognosis is going well, but at the moment it is not yet possible to determine the further course of the disease and the course of treatment. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the success of Natalia's treatment and encourage you to support this brave Warrior! July 24, 2024 Natalia is entering the post-transplant period❗. Natalka has been discharged home. However, the treatment is still not over and she still has to come with her parents to "Cape of Hope" for check-ups and medication. She endures it hard every time. The stress of coming to the clinic again makes her vomit and feel very bad. Each time she asks if she will have to stay in the hospital. She worries before leaving home whether the trip will only be a day trip. However, this cannot be determined before the necessary tests are performed. Let's help brave Natalka and her equally brave parents survive this extremely demanding post-transplant period! May 22, 2024

Her health problems began with a simple bump on her knee on the playground.

The bone pains that caused the girl great suffering resembled rheumatoid arthritis. For three years after the injury, her parents traveled with her to various hospitals, where specialized tests were performed - and still no proper diagnosis was made.

Finally, in July 2023, Natalka underwent genetic testing at the CZMP in Lodz, which confirmed one of the first suppositions - osteopetrosis, or Albers-Schönberg disease. As early as December 2021, there was a suggestion in the description of the X-rays that it might be this disease. In early September 2023, Natalka's mother received confirmation. Finally, a proper diagnosis was made and treatment could begin.

The girl was taken care of by Professor Krzysztof Kalwak, head of the "Cape of Hope" clinic in Wroclaw.

He explained to the parents the bone marrow transplant procedure and its necessity. A family transplant was ruled out, so a donor was found from outside Poland. The marrow was transplanted on March 15, 2024.

Natalka is still in the ward, in a closed room, where she is trying to function and enjoy having her mom with her. She misses her brother, her dad and her home very much. There she could play, run around and enjoy everything, even despite the pain that made her life difficult. Without the support of her family, she would not have been able to endure the hardships of treatment and confinement to a hospital room.

She has moments of worse mood and her biggest dream is to return to a normal life of a few years old. After leaving the transplant ward, further treatment, checks, specialized examinations await Natalka. The diagnosed disease has many facets and attacks many organs, so constant supervision by specialists will be necessary.
