The Peace of Easter Disrupted

On Easter Sunday, Marcel said he wasn’t feeling well. At the same time , he developed a fever, and I noticed that his cheek was noticeably swollen. This worried me greatly. We didn’t wait a moment and immediately decided to go to the emergency room in Olesno. His blood work showed very serious abnormalities.
More tests, consultations, and conversations with doctors. During that time, I went home only to pack Marcel’s things for the hospital. What I remember most from those moments is the flood of thoughts and the feeling that my heart was about to leap out of my chest.
When my husband and I were asked to come into the office, we heard the doctors’ initial suspicions: leukemia or lymphoma.

The clinic in Wrocław and the diagnosis

That very same night, we were admitted to a clinic in Wrocław. Everything happened very quickly. In the morning, Marcel received a blood and platelet transfusion. I looked at my child and still couldn’t believe that all of this was happening. Each subsequent test brought us closer to the answers I feared so much. I wasn’t ready to hear that diagnosis. I didn’t want it for my son. And yet, there it was. Without a shadow of a doubt. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Hospital reality

First, Marcel was given steroids. Then he received his first round of chemotherapy. It’s hard to describe how a mother feels when she sees her child undergoing such intense treatment. Fear and hope are with me every moment. We have more tests ahead of us. The results of those tests will determine what the next phase of therapy will look like and the direction the treatment will take.

We can't be together during this difficult time

My husband and I run a farm. Spring has always been a busy time for us and the start of planting season. Now everything is different. My husband is doing everything he can. Meanwhile , my mother has taken over caring for our younger sons, Olivier and Dominik. The boys miss each other very much.

Memories that still linger

Marcel was always on the go. He loved riding his bike with his friends, and soccer games brought him immense joy. When he came home and slowed down for a moment, he would sit down with his LEGO bricks. He built entire worlds out of tiny pieces. When I think back on those moments, I see a son who is happy and joyful. Today, he lies worried in a hospital bed. The sight breaks my heart.

Please pay attention

It goes without saying that every day is a struggle for us. We’re fighting with all our might because we can’t imagine not doing everything we can to get Marcel healthy again. We want to be together at home again. I know the road ahead will be long and not always easy.

If you take even a moment to reflect on my child’s story, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means the world to us. Thank you for being here and for all the help you’ve given us.
