The quiet voice of intuition
Last fall, Dorota decided to undergo a preventive medical checkup. She wasn’t experiencing any pain or obvious symptoms. It was supposed to be a routine checkup—the kind that gives you peace of mind and reassures you that everything is okay.
The doctor did not downplay the test results. After a brief conversation, he issued a referral for further testing. From that moment on, everything began to happen very quickly. Every call from the clinic made her heart race. The doctor’s words weighed on her like a burden she could hardly bear.
Invasive malignant tumor of the right breast.
Treatment and next steps
Months went by. Long and difficult months. Marked by cycles of chemotherapy. Surgery is scheduled for the end of April. It’s a moment that brings fear, but also hope. A chance to stop what is trying to rob Dorota of control over her own life . After the surgery, the doctors will decide what to do next. More steps, more uncertainties.
Too many challenges
Every day for Dorota starts differently than for everyone else. Wegener’s granulomatosis, type 1 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hypothyroidism following a previous cancer diagnosis are the daily challenges she must face. There are days when everything seems too much. When her body tells her: slow down.
These days, even simple tasks require a lot of effort: getting out of bed, making breakfast, or taking a few steps. My body is worn out from the treatment. Every day, the pain and lack of energy serve as a reminder of this.
Sometimes Dorota looks out the window at the world going on outside. People rushing to work, conversations on the street, the little things of everyday life. That kind of everyday life feels very distant to her now. She can’t go back to work. She has to learn to live more slowly, day by day.
The way to the hospital
Every visit to Warsaw is not just another stage of treatment, but also a long journey. It’s 300 kilometers of exhaustion, pain, and a quiet struggle that begins even before Dorota steps through the hospital doors.
