The Night That Changed Everything
The family was admitted to the hospital on the night of September 30. At first, everything pointed to a common infection, but Marcel’s condition was rapidly deteriorating. Thanks to the vigilance of his parents and their family doctor, the boy was first taken to a hospital in Chełm, from where, after initial blood tests, he was transported by ambulance to Lublin. On October 3, sepsis—a dangerous complication that further complicated the start of treatment—was added to the diagnosis of leukemia.
A Battle on Many Fronts
Marcel’s treatment was challenging from the very beginning. Numerous procedures became necessary: multiple bone marrow biopsies, the insertion of a temporary catheter, and later a Broviac catheter, which could not be inserted immediately due to sepsis. Marcel also received transfusions of blood, platelets, immunoglobulins, and granulocyte concentrate. He is currently completing his second treatment protocol, which consists of chemotherapy and steroid therapy.
Enormous strength
Marcel bravely endured chemotherapy, despite his deteriorating health. The steroids forced him to fast twice due to high triglyceride levels, and his weight dropped to just 29 kilograms. He was bedridden for two months and had to relearn everything: first taking steps next to the bed, then with a walker. Each of these steps is a testament to this little boy’s immense strength.
A disease that affects the whole family
At the hospital, Marcel’s parents take turns staying with him; his mother is on medical leave, and his father is receiving rehabilitation benefits. Marcel’s brother, Wojciech, is also deeply affected by his brother’s illness. The greatest challenge, however, is the longing he feels, as Marcel dreams of returning to school, to his friends, and home. The road back to normalcy is still a long one.
The world he wants to return to
Marcel is a typical boy who loves video games, Legos, and spending time with his friends. It is these simple joys that are now his greatest dream and motivation to keep fighting.
Let's help Marcel return to his childhood
The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of a specialized diet, transportation, oncological, hematological, and endocrinological care, physical therapy, and psychological counseling. Every donation provides real support on Marcel’s long road to recovery and gives him a chance to finally return to his world of building blocks, games, and carefree moments with his friends. Help us give Marcel back his childhood.
