"I never imagined that my greatest dream would be to be able to read a book on my own, leave the house without fear, or recognize the faces of my loved ones from a distance."
First, my world began to change
The first sign was my deteriorating vision. It became increasingly difficult for me to read. I noticed that my field of vision was narrowing, and I began to have trouble orienting myself in space. I also began experiencing neurological symptoms that I couldn’t explain. A series of tests began. With each one, I got more answers, but instead of bringing relief, they revealed more difficult diagnoses.
First, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Shortly thereafter, I learned that there were also lesions in my brain that required neurosurgical treatment. At the same time, damage to my eyes was progressing.
Each completed stage unlocked the next one
I underwent extensive surgery to remove a tumor from my left lung, along with the lymph nodes. Shortly thereafter, another surgery was necessary—this time a neurosurgical procedure—during which meningiomas at the base of the skull were removed.
I’ve been through numerous hospitalizations, specialized tests, and consultations. Although the most difficult procedures are now behind me, my treatment is still ongoing. I remain under the constant care of specialists, and further decisions regarding my treatment will depend on the results of upcoming tests.
Today, what I fear most is losing my sight
I’m finding it increasingly difficult to read, navigate unfamiliar places, and perform ordinary daily activities. Each new visual field test brings hope, but at the same time reminds me that not everything is within my control. I am aware that my continued independence depends on preserving my vision. That is the thought that is with me most often these days. Because of my illness, I am no longer able to work.
My loved ones help me with many everyday tasks. They accompany me to doctor’s appointments, help me get around, and take over the responsibilities that I’ve handled on my own my whole life.
Despite everything, I haven't lost hope. I believe that continued treatment, rehabilitation, and care from specialists will allow me to maintain my mobility and independence for as long as possible.
Every bit of support I receive gives me more peace of mind
I still have many tests, eye, neurology, and oncology consultations ahead of me, as well as further treatment. I would like to thank everyone who decides to support me on this journey from the bottom of my heart. Your help allows me to focus on my treatment with greater peace of mind.
