It started with fluid in my lungs. The doctors suspected heart inflammation, but an analysis of the fluid revealed something far more serious: cancer cells. Over the following months, the doctors searched for the source of my illness. Finally, I received the diagnosis: malignant ovarian cancer that had metastasized to the pleura.
It all started with lung problems
First, I developed fluid in my lungs. The doctors I saw suspected heart inflammation, but the reality turned out to be even worse. Cancer cells were detected in the fluid sample. I was in shock. But that was just the beginning of a very difficult diagnostic process.
The doctors spent nearly six months trying to identify the cause of the illness. Among other things, I underwent a PET scan, had uterine swabs taken under anesthesia, and had VATS surgery.
It was only after extensive testing that a diagnosis was reached: stage IV high-grade serous ovarian cancer with metastases to the pleura.
Treatment is already underway
I am undergoing treatment in Łódź. I am currently receiving chemotherapy. So far, my body is responding well to the treatment, but a more comprehensive assessment will only be possible after I complete the sixth cycle of chemotherapy.
I’m also waiting for the results of my BRCA1/2 tests. If the opportunity arises, the doctors will consider targeted therapy after chemotherapy, which could help maintain the effects of the treatment. This gives me hope, but I still have a long and uncertain road ahead of me.
The illness struck suddenly
I’ve always been an active person. I rode my bike, tended my garden, cooked, went for walks, and led a simple, peaceful life without any stimulants. It was hard for me to believe that an illness could strike so suddenly and bring everything to a halt so abruptly.
These days, I spend most of my time at home. I mainly go to the hospital for IV treatments. I also have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and am dealing with the aftereffects of myocarditis.
After chemotherapy, there is severe pain, extreme weakness, and anxiety about what lies ahead.
I'm most worried about my son
The illness has robbed me of my sense of security. Before, I was caring for my mother after her stroke and working odd jobs without a contract, which is why I now find myself without a stable source of income.
My husband works multiple shifts at two different jobs, so he’s often not home. My son is a huge help; he supports me every day. He’s the one I worry about the most. He sees how my strength is fading, even though I used to be active and full of life. I’m afraid of what will happen to him if I’m not around.
Every day is a struggle
I’m not only dealing with the illness, but also with fear, pain, and exhaustion. My mental health has suffered greatly—I need support from a psychotherapist and a psychiatrist because there are signs of depression.
The hardest questions are the ones no one can answer today: Will the treatment work? What will happen after chemotherapy? How will my family cope if the disease progresses again?
Please support me
Every donation will help me get through the next stages of treatment and give me a greater sense of security at a time when everything depends on test results, how my body responds to chemotherapy, and the doctors’ next decisions.
I am battling advanced ovarian cancer. I want to live, get treatment, and be with my family for as long as possible. Please help me.
