Diagnosis

It all started with severe pain in the upper abdomen that kept coming back. Despite multiple visits, the doctors didn’t find anything of concern. My dad, Janusz, had also been struggling with severe constipation for quite some time, so he had a gastroscopy scheduled for the end of March.

However, two days before the test, jaundice developed, which alarmed the doctors. It was decided to perform a CT scan.

None of us was prepared for the diagnosis we received shortly thereafter. Stage IV pancreatic cancer. In an instant, our entire family’s life changed completely.

Further tests and treatment

After the diagnosis, a difficult battle began. Dad underwent an ECPW procedure and three biliary stenting procedures. Unfortunately, it turned out that the tumor was inoperable because it had spread to the arteries and veins.

My dad is currently undergoing palliative chemotherapy. Each treatment cycle puts a tremendous strain on his body. The biggest issues have been anemia and elevated ALT levels.

For years, Dad has also been dealing with many other health conditions, including deep vein thrombosis, diabetic retinopathy, hypertension, ankylosing spondylitis, and polycystic kidney disease.

Difficult everyday life

Today, my parents live with me. His illness has completely changed our lives. Every day, my mom lovingly cares for my dad, prepares his meals, and attends to his daily needs. I take care of everything that gives them a little breathing room: I drive my parents to hospitals and doctor’s appointments, do the shopping, and adapt our home to my dad’s needs.

My brother, even though he lives in another city, is always thinking of us. He calls and texts us at every opportunity.

During this difficult time, I’ve received tremendous support from my employer, who has allowed me to take time off when my family needs me most. This support allows me to be there for my parents during the most important moments.

Small Passions

Before he got sick, Dad loved going for walks and riding his bike. Today, he has more low-key hobbies: he collects stamps, watches soccer games, and follows Formula 1 races. We also spend a lot of time just talking. Sometimes we reminisce about the old days, and sometimes we talk about everyday things. These moments are priceless to us and remind us how important it is to be together.

Please support me

Every day of the battle against this illness brings new challenges. The costs of treatment, transportation, medication, and daily care are constantly rising. In addition, we need rehabilitation equipment to help Dad with his daily activities and improve his mobility.

Every donation not only provides us with financial support, but also gives us hope for a better tomorrow.

We sincerely thank you for all your support, for sharing the fundraiser, and for your kind words.
