Disturbing trace

What initially looked like a simple lesion began to cause Johnny's parents more and more concern over time. Instead of fading away, the lesion on the boy's body was constantly growing, and the area around it was sweating intensely. These symptoms immediately prompted the parents to act. Seeking help from specialists, they did not yet know what a dramatic path they would have to go through to hear the diagnosis.

A devastating diagnosis

The first ultrasound, which showed the presence of a lesion, gave no answer as to what was actually happening to Janek. The parents, full of anxiety, took their son to a clinic in Szczecin, where an MRI was performed. Unfortunately, even this result did not dispel doubts. Only a biopsy, performed after weeks of anxiety, brought a definitive answer: a rare, dangerous tumor called capsiform hemangioendothelioma.

Treatment that gives hope but takes away strength

The parents did not wait. They decided immediately to implement therapy with the drug Sirolimus, which over time began to have visible results. The tumor began to shrink. Unfortunately, the price of the applied treatment turned out to be high. Today Janek lives with a severely reduced immunity, which does not allow him to receive basic vaccinations, and every infection is a real threat to his life.

Although the tumor is shrinking, treatment is still ongoing

Although the therapy is working, Janek has a long way to go. Drug treatment will be used as long as it is successful in reducing the size of the tumor. The next stage will be its surgical removal. Each additional day means rising costs: consultations, travel, specialized diet and supplementation, which are crucial for the boy to have the strength to endure the devastating therapy.
