Onset of illness
The beginnings of Eve's battle with the disease date back to 2013, when an ulceration appeared on her nose, at first of little concern. Over time, the lesion began to grow in intensity and the first surgery became necessary. The test results confirmed the presence of a malignant, multifocal skin cancer located in the face, which from the very beginning required precise surgical treatment and constant medical monitoring to accompany her for the following years.
More years, more treatments and a continuing lack of peace of mind
In 2013, 2014 and 2015, Eve underwent successive surgeries to remove the foci, as lesions appeared in different regions of the facial skin, each one another sign that the disease process was still active. After a period of relative stability, in April 2024, tests again confirmed a focus of basal cell carcinoma on the nose on the left side, which required urgent surgical management. This recurrence stretching over more than a decade became one of the most aggravating experiences for her, as each subsequent diagnosis brought not only the need for treatment, but also growing anxiety about what would happen next.
Hope for stability was once again dashed in 2025, when a fourth surgery became necessary. Each surgery meant a period of convalescence, reduced dexterity, and a growing uncertainty that accompanies her to this day and does not allow her to forget the disease even for a moment.
Challenging everyday life
Eve is currently staying at home, but daily functioning requires a great deal of effort on her part. Getting out of bed, maintaining hygiene, trying to leave the house or preparing for a medical appointment become tasks that require time, strength and help from loved ones.
The situation is further complicated by comorbidities including bladder-vaginal fistula, atrial fibrillation, cardiac fibrillation, cataracts, hypertension and chronic depression, which, like a buckle, binds together all the difficulties of her daily life. Each of these elements makes returning to relative fitness a long, demanding process with many limitations. Regular medical appointments, necessary in her case, are almost impossible for her without the support of others.
Longing for ordinariness
Eve has always loved walking, cycling and working with flowers. Floristry was a way for her to quiet her thoughts and find harmony. Her illness took away her ability to do these small, everyday activities, but it did not take away her desire to return to them someday. It is her longing for ordinariness that keeps her fighting for each new day.
Support is needed
Funds from the collection will be used for medications that are not reimbursed, to secure continued access to treatment, travel to specialists, and for psychological care, which is an integral part of the years-long fight against a recurrent disease. For Eve, this support provides a foundation of security, without which it would be difficult to maintain continuity of treatment and to control the effects of the disease and co-morbidities.
