The illness came on suddenly and without warning.
Adaś was a cheerful, curious two-year-old. His runny nose and elevated temperature sounded like a normal childhood infection. The doctors talked about teething and typical ailments that go away on their own. However, his parents were concerned about something else. His belly was getting bigger and bigger. They reported this during a visit to the pediatrician.
From the private doctor's office, they went straight to the hospital emergency room on the same day, with a note about a life-threatening condition caused by suspected hepatosplenomegaly. The tests dispelled any illusions. His liver was enlarged to its anatomical limits, reaching his hip bone. His spleen was twice the size of that of a healthy child. Adam did not return home, and the diagnosis, which was delivered the next day, was devastating. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Hospital daily life
The first week in the hospital was filled with tests— numerous ultrasounds, X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. On top of that, there were daily blood draws, IVs, and oral medications. All of this was completely new and terrifying. Steroid treatment was started very quickly, and after a few days, Adaś had a Broviac catheter inserted. This tunnelled catheter became an integral part of everyday life. Adaś called it his "Broviaczek." It is used to administer chemotherapy and medication. It is also used to draw blood.
The first hospital stay lasted ten long weeks.
The treatment resulted in dramatic complications. Central nervous system paralysis occurred. Adam stopped walking. He lost control of his hands. He didn't speak for several days. Polyneuropathy left traces that he still struggles with today. Problems with balance, rapid fatigue, hyperextension of the knees, clubfoot, and leg pain that returns every day.
Subsequent protocols did not spare his body. Adam struggles with neutropenia, which requires blood and platelet transfusions. He developed burns in his mouth and esophagus, adrenal gland disorders, blood pressure fluctuations, and drastic drops in blood sugar. Chemotherapy and steroids disrupted his natural feelings of hunger and satiety. Eating is no longer a matter of course, and his body is increasingly refusing to cooperate.
Isolation and fear
In mid-May, Adas was diagnosed with Clostridium difficile infection combined with a positive MBL enzyme result. This meant a real and immediate threat to his life . From that moment on, every hospital stay was spent in strict isolation. Closed doors. Limited contact. Silence that intensifies fear. The family lives in constant tension, between treatment and trying to maintain a semblance of normality.
The family paid a high price.
The diagnosis coincided with my mother's return to work after parental leave. All career plans and dreams of development had to be put on hold for an indefinite period. Adam's treatment became the only point of reference. The emotional toll was also enormous. The family remains under constant psychological care, and my mother is also undergoing pharmacological treatment.
Adas's older sister suddenly lost the daily closeness of her brother and mother. Severe stress caused her to develop visual disturbances and anxiety. When a child is sick, the whole family is sick.
We are fighting to get back to fitness
Today, Adam's parents' greatest dream is for him to regain his physical fitness. To live without pain. To enjoy the childhood freedom that was brutally taken away from him. The funds raised will be used for intensive physical therapy, hand training, individual classes supporting intellectual development, medication, supplements, and psychological care.
This is not a fight for comfort. It is a fight to allow a three-year-old to be a child again.
Please help
Adaś has gone through experiences that no child should ever have to endure. He now faces long-term physical therapy and an attempt to rebuild what was taken away by his illness and its harsh treatment. Every bit of support brings him closer to regaining his health, relief, and the childhood that is still waiting to return to him.
