Diagnosis that broke parents' hearts
Two years of happiness. It only took one moment for a carefree childhood to turn into a struggle that no one could have imagined before. Zlatan, who had recently started walking on his own, who loved to play in the nursery and laughed with all his might, suddenly stopped standing on his feet. He didn't stumble, there were no abrasions, no bruises. Simply put, overnight, his little legs refused to obey.
The horrified parents immediately decided to consult a neurologist. From there, they were referred directly to the hospital ward. The blood results they received shattered their world in an instant - suspected leukemia.
Hospital daily life
On May 1, 2024, the final diagnosis was made: B-type acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Since the end of May, Zlatan has "taken up residence" in the hematology ward room at the "Cape of Hope" in Wroclaw, where he has begun intensive treatment that will determine his future.
The boy is still too young to understand what he is facing. He doesn't know what cancer is, what punctures, IVs and subsequent tests are. Fortunately, he doesn't understand what the danger means. His parents understand everything. They feel fear, helplessness and pain that squeezes their hearts as they watch their son struggle.
A fight that needs support
Zlatan's further treatment depends on the results of a bone marrow test. It is on their basis that doctors will determine the boy's further treatment plan. The parents, who take turns watching by their son's side, know that they cannot let go. They also know that they will not be able to cope alone in this fight.
The boy's fight for health is not only about more medical procedures, but also huge costs: medicines, travel, treatments and specialized rehabilitation that will be necessary to restore Zlatan's ability to walk.
