Self-examination
In early December of last year, while performing a self-exam, I felt a small lump in my right breast. I also experienced pain that radiated toward my armpit. In an instant, I felt a sense of anxiety that I couldn’t shake. Filled with fear, I made an appointment with my doctor, hoping that my fears would prove to be unfounded.
Unfortunately, the diagnosis came very quickly and changed my whole life: invasive breast cancer with metastases.
I still remember the moment I heard those words. The world suddenly came to a standstill. Fear, disbelief, and thousands of unanswered questions. Overnight, my plans, dreams, and everyday life gave way to more tests, hospital visits, and the fight for my health.
Treatment plan
I’m currently undergoing palliative chemotherapy every three weeks. The treatment puts a tremendous strain on my body. Nausea, dizziness, weakness, and fatigue have become part of my daily life. There are days when even the simplest tasks require a tremendous amount of effort on my part.
I have a CT scan scheduled for July 15. The results will show how my body is responding to treatment, and I’ll find out what the next steps in my treatment plan will be. I’m trying to believe that I’ll get good news, even though I feel anxious every day.
Family support
I spend most of my time at home. I commute to the hospital for treatment. I wouldn’t be able to get through all of this without my husband and my closest family. They’re the ones who give me strength when I start to lose it. They’re there for me every moment, help me with my daily tasks, and remind me that I’m not alone.
When I’m feeling better, I try to enjoy the little things. I love to cook and discover new flavors. In the evening, I love nothing more than to settle into an armchair with a good book and a cup of tea. These ordinary moments mean something completely different to me now than they used to.
Help
Unfortunately, my health does not allow me to return to work. The responsibility for supporting our household rests on my husband’s shoulders. At the same time, the costs associated with my treatment and daily living are constantly rising, which is why I am asking for your support with all my heart. Every bit of help gives me a chance and allows me to focus on what matters most today: my health.
Thank you for all the help, kind words, and support you’ve shown. It’s thanks to people with big hearts that it’s easier to believe that even in the hardest moments, you’re not alone.
