When illness takes over everyday life
Prolonged menstruation was the first sign, although it did not yet raise suspicions of cancer. It was accompanied by anxiety that demanded an explanation, so medical consultation and ordered tests became a natural step.
The results that came in May 2024, however, brought an answer that Sylvia by no means expected to hear - acute lymphoblastic leukemia. That moment marked the beginning of a difficult journey for health and life, with subsequent stages of treatment and preparations for the expected bone marrow transplant.
Diagnosis brings problems
Sylvia has had a cervical conization and is awaiting a bone marrow transplant, which could be her chance for recovery. The treatment process, with its hardships and anxiety, affected not only her body, but also her psyche, leaving deep marks. The diagnosis was a blow that Sylvia experienced extremely hard. As if that were not enough, the disease cast a shadow over her personal life - after it was announced, her partner left, leaving the responsibility for the house and children solely on her shoulders.
The loneliness of the daily struggle
Sylvia is not working, and her only source of income was her Social Security benefit, which ended a month ago. She is now awaiting a decision on her pension, trying to keep her family safe. Everyday is a struggle to pay for an apartment, to provide food for the children, to maintain the simplest normality in a world full of uncertainty. The biggest burden is facing everything alone. Lacking financial resources and the support of a loved one, every step requires tremendous strength. During this difficult time, it's not just about treatment - it's about surviving and providing the most important things for the children.
