When our charge fainted in late February/early March, it was decided to urgently contact his family doctor, who ordered basic tests.
After the morphology with its results, Stasiu returned to his family doctor, who knew that something very worrying was going on and referred the boy to the pediatric ward, but there, after seeing the results, it was decided to immediately transport him to the Hematology department in Kielce. At the Kielce ward, a detailed examination was carried out and a diagnosis was made very quickly - B-type acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The very next day a bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture and chemotherapy were administered.
The first month of therapy was tough and Stas's body responded poorly to treatment.
He was classified in a high-risk group as far as possible relapse is concerned, which made it necessary to administer heavier chemotherapy, and the whole therapy will have to last longer. Further stages of treatment, apart from slight delays in the administration of subsequent cycles of chemotherapy due to infections, went quite smoothly. Follow-up bone marrow tests, were successful and indicated remission of the disease. How long further clinical treatment will last will depend on the current test results. After that, maintenance chemotherapy in tablets is scheduled to be administered, and will last until March 2026.
The funds raised during the collection will be used to cover the cost of ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, proper diet and supplementation, travel to hospitals, and private visits to specialists.
