The diagnosis after which nothing was the same as before
At the end of 2024, Roman was diagnosed with malignant colon cancer. From that moment on, his life began to change at a rapid, uncontrollable pace, and the following weeks brought hospitalizations, tests, and decisions that were impossible to prepare for emotionally.
Very quickly, the disease ceased to be the only problem he had to face.
Treatment and series of complications
At the beginning of 2025 , Roman began radiation and chemotherapy. The intensity of the treatment and the enormous stress took their toll on his body. In February , he suffered a stroke, which caused paralysis on the right side of his body and severe speech difficulties. A month later, he underwent extensive surgery to remove his colon, rectum, and lymph nodes, leaving him with a permanent stoma. At the same time, Roman is struggling with type 2 diabetes, atrial fibrillation, and a deteriorating mental state, and his body is functioning at the limit of its endurance.
Loneliness that intensifies anxiety
Roman is a lonely person. He lives alone on the third floor of a tenement building, which has now become almost impossible for him to climb. Everyday activities such as shopping, preparing meals, or getting to the doctor require effort that he does not always have the strength for. His feelings of abandonment and vulnerability grow with each passing day, exacerbating his emotional difficulties.
Everyday life after illness
A stroke and extensive surgery completely changed the way he functions. Every day becomes a struggle to maintain a minimum of independence and dignity. Stairs, which used to be insignificant, are now a real barrier, and simple activities have become serious challenges. Without constant assistance, even minor difficulties can quickly turn into crisis situations.
Without support, Roman is left alone to face limitations that he simply cannot overcome. His helplessness, growing with each passing day, begins to intertwine with a loss of security and control over his own life, making everyday life increasingly difficult to bear.
