A slight thickening on the neck
One day, quite by accident, I felt a small lump on my neck that hadn't been there before. It didn't hurt, it didn't bother me, it seemed completely harmless. However, weeks passed and the lump was still there. With time, I began to understand that I shouldn't ignore it. I went to see a doctor.
When the diagnosis was made
I remember the moment of diagnosis very clearly. The doctor's office, the conversation, and the tension that accompanied it. The words that were spoken then suddenly changed my perspective on my own life. In an instant, everything stopped. Just a moment ago, I had my ordinary life—a job, plans, and everyday routines that I really enjoyed.
I first learned about the diagnosis from the histopathological test results, which I picked up from the secretary's office. Only later did I have conversations with doctors and make decisions about further treatment.
Decisions had to be made quickly.
The doctors acted very quickly. Decisions were made one after another. Two surgeries and a series of radiation treatments were planned. Everything went well, I began to regain my peace of mind, and I thought that the worst was behind me. Unfortunately, after 13 years, the disease returned. That moment robbed me of my peace of mind again. More tests, treatments, and surgeries followed.
Subsequent stages of therapy
From 2021 to 2023, I was taking chemotherapy in pill form, at which point metastases appeared in my lungs and liver. The doctors decided to change my treatment. Unfortunately, my cancer is ACC I and does not respond well to standard chemotherapy. Last year, I underwent thermal ablation of the lesions in my liver. Currently, a return to intravenous chemotherapy is being considered.
One of the effects of the treatment is paralysis of one of the vocal cords. Speaking, which used to be something natural, has become difficult and requires effort.
What used to bring the greatest joy no longer does.
Due to my illness , I had to significantly reduce my professional activity, which for years gave me a sense of purpose and stability. Today, even the things I once loved so much have lost their meaning.
I live alone, which makes everyday life more difficult, especially when treatment requires frequent trips and follow-up consultations. In solitude, the silence that surrounds me can be particularly painful.
