In July, our lives came to a standstill once again. During a family celebration, my husband Rafał suddenly had an epileptic seizure. I had seen this happen before, and I immediately felt a growing sense of fear.
Rafał was taken to the hospital, and deep down, I was afraid to hear what I didn’t even want to think about. Unfortunately, my worst fears were confirmed. The brain tumor had returned. Again.
Onset of illness
Our struggle has been going on since 2014. That was when we first heard the diagnosis that turned our lives upside down. Since then, Rafał has undergone several surgeries, numerous tests, and various forms of treatment. Each time, we believed that the worst was behind us.
We don't know what to do next
Today, Rafał is undergoing chemotherapy, which he is having a very hard time tolerating. My husband, who until recently was full of energy, smiles, and plans, is now unable to perform even basic tasks on his own. He doesn’t have the strength to get out of bed, he doesn’t eat regular meals, and his only source of nutrition is nutritional drinks.
In addition, he suffers from left-sided paralysis and high blood pressure.
We are currently waiting for the final round of chemotherapy. We don’t know what the coming days, weeks, and months will bring. This uncertainty is one of the heaviest burdens we’ve had to bear. However, we continue to look for new treatment options.
Care and Concern
Rafał is staying at home with me and our son. We’re trying to create a safe place for him, full of care, peace, and love. However, everyday life is very difficult for us.
We’re going through a lot of emotions: worry about his health, a sense of helplessness, and exhaustion. Still, every day we try to stay hopeful, support one another, and give Rafał what he needs most.
We need help
I haven't been working for three months because I can't leave my husband alone. He needs constant care and assistance with almost every activity.
We are tired, scared, and worried about the future. Medical costs are constantly rising, and our financial resources are dwindling, which is why I am asking for your help today.
