Sudden chest pain

In December 2025, it all began with a sudden chest pain my son Piotr experienced. What seemed like an ordinary day quickly turned into a series of tests, anxiety, and the doctors’ silent glances, which spoke louder than words.

The diagnosis came suddenly: acute lymphoblastic leukemia. From that moment on, the whole family’s life became a struggle.

Treatment and complications

The doctors didn't waste a moment. They started treatment right away. I looked at Piotr and tried to be there for him. On the outside, I tried to stay calm, listen, ask questions, and remember every word, even though inside I was very scared.

After chemotherapy, serious complications arose: peripheral neuropathy, cerebral edema, acute gastroenteritis, enlargement of the liver and duodenum, as well as weakness in the left arm and leg. Walking became a struggle; every movement required immense concentration and strength.

My children

I’m a single mom. His four siblings are still at home. My oldest daughter has taken on many responsibilities. She had to grow up fast and step into roles that shouldn’t have fallen to her. The children are having a very hard time coping with being apart. They miss each other, they miss normal life, and they miss laughing together around the dinner table.

I feel a sense of helplessness welling up inside me when I see how much they long for something. I try to be a source of support for them, but I often feel as if I’m standing on very shaky ground myself. Every day is a struggle to keep our home in balance, so that the children can have at least a semblance of peace, even just a little sense of security.

Love for the Uniform

Before his illness, Piotr lived for sports. Physical activity brought him joy, strength, and a sense of freedom. However, his greatest source of pride and passion was the uniformed services academy. It was there that his character matured; it was there that he learned discipline, responsibility, and that even when things get tough, you must never give up.

Today, in this completely different reality, he continues to be guided by those values. I see them in Piotr every day—in the way he endures his treatment and complications, and in that quiet, unseen courage that needs no words.

A Dream

My biggest dream is for Piotrek to recover. So that he can put on his uniform again, stand tall, and feel proud that he went through all of this and came out on top.

My son and I have been in the hospital for five months. I had to quit my job, even though I used to be the family’s sole breadwinner. The medical costs are enormous. They’re rising day by day, along with my exhaustion and uncertainty.

Today, I’m asking for help for my son Piotr. Any support is a huge help to us. It’s also a sign that we’re not alone in this fight.
