Symptoms of a common infection
As recently as the end of April, it seemed like just a common infection. My son Oskar was feeling weak, and he developed a fever. We went to see our family doctor.
However, the doctor took the situation very seriously right away. A series of tests, consultations, and hours of uncertainty followed.
A difficult diagnosis
Shortly thereafter, we heard the diagnosis that every parent fears: acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
I remember that moment as if it were yesterday. The doctor asked us to sit down. Even then, I had a feeling that we were about to hear something difficult to accept.
The moment we received the diagnosis, our whole world came to a standstill. What had seemed like a simple infection just a moment before turned out to be the beginning of the toughest battle we’ve ever had to face.
Long-term treatment
Since mid-May, Oskar has been bravely undergoing chemotherapy. He is currently dealing with bone pain, weakness, loss of appetite, and stomach problems. Hospital rooms and successive stages of treatment have become part of his daily life. Doctors estimate that the treatment will last about two years.
On May 25, we once again had to face another overwhelming fear. The doctors told us that Oskar would need to undergo lung drainage. Another procedure, more hours filled with uncertainty, and more questions to which no one could give a definite answer.
Support
Today, I watch as my child faces this illness with extraordinary courage every day. It’s a very difficult time. Every day brings new challenges and more moments of anxiety.
I’ve been by Oskar’s side since the very first day of this battle. I hold his hand when he’s afraid. I hug him when the pain saps his strength. I comfort him and try to encourage him, even though I often struggle with a sense of helplessness myself.
Oskar's older brother is waiting for him at home. He misses him very much. He misses having him around, their daily conversations, and the ordinary moments that used to seem so natural.
Please support us in this fight
Oskar was always full of energy. He loved playing soccer. Today, his biggest dream is to recover.
The costs associated with his illness are constantly rising, which is why I am asking for your help with all my heart. Every bit of support gives Oskar a chance at a more peaceful treatment and a return to his normal daily life.
Thank you for all the kindness and support you have shown us.
