The onset of the disease
The first signs appeared in November 2024. Ear pain and a small lump at the back of the neck did not foreshadow such a dramatic course of the disease. An ENT consultation, antibiotics, waiting for improvement. When the treatment did not work, further diagnostics were started.
An ultrasound scan, biopsy, and hospitalization in the pulmonary and tuberculosis ward led to a diagnosis of tuberculosis of the lungs and lymph nodes. This diagnosis dominated further medical decisions for many weeks. It was only during anti-tuberculosis treatment that the correct diagnosis was confirmed. Aggressive DLBCL non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Time was working against him.
Active tuberculosis prevented the immediate start of chemotherapy. Oncological treatment could not begin until the end of June 2025. This delay had consequences. The tumor grew rapidly and aggressively. Pressure on the nervous and vascular structures led to partial hearing loss in the left ear and painful paralysis of the left side of the body.
Treatment that saves lives but leaves scars
On June 24, chemotherapy began according to the R CHOP regimen. The therapy is effective, and Oktawian has been qualified for eight cycles of treatment. He received the seventh cycle on New Year's Eve 2025. At the same time, his body is struggling with the burden of complications.
Paralysis of the left side, chronic pain, hearing problems, and weakness make everyday functioning a challenge that requires enormous effort. Added to this are comorbidities. A history of tuberculosis, suspected chronic hepatitis B infection, and pressure on the left vein further complicate the treatment and rehabilitation process.
Loneliness and responsibility
During his illness, Octavian moved into his brother's apartment, which offers better social conditions. However, he remains alone on a daily basis, struggling with limitations he had not previously experienced.
He is unable to work and does not know when he will be able to earn a living again. He has a 16-year-old daughter, whom he has supported for years. Today, his inability to provide her with financial support is one of his most painful psychological burdens. Previously, he also cared for his sick mother. The illness has robbed him of the roles that defined his everyday life and made him dependent on the help of others.
The daily struggle
The biggest challenges are pain, limited mobility, and fear for the future. Traveling to treatment, rehabilitation, and consultations covered by the National Health Fund involves long waits and additional costs. The lack of a steady income means living in constant uncertainty.
Music, which was his passion and a space of freedom, is now just a memory. Octavian dreams of being able to play again, move without pain, and regain at least some of his mobility, which would allow him to return to independence.
Please help
The funds raised will allow Oktawian to continue his treatment, rehabilitation, and necessary care without having to make dramatic decisions dictated by a lack of funds. This fundraiser is about preserving dignity, fitness, and a real chance for a future after illness.
