Update
Treatment and waiting times
During my last doctor's appointment No new lesions were found. Unfortunately Wounds that won't heal remain a problem. This is a complication following radiation therapy and is associated with pain, which has become a regular part of her daily life. Marzena is currently waiting to be scheduled for an ablation procedure and for an appointment at the genetic clinic, where doctors will be able to assess further diagnostic and treatment options more thoroughly.![]()
Our mental health also needs support
Illness and long-term treatment also take a toll on one's mental health. Marzena is receiving support from a mental health clinic as she tries to find the strength within herself, to get through this difficult time.Research results
Marzena has already undergone a gastroscopy, during which tissue samples were taken from her stomach. She now faces several more weeks of waiting for the results. The examination revealed a hiatal hernia and gastritis with erosions. Although the diagnosis provided some answers, Marzena still faces many uncertainties. Today, every day involves carefully rebuilding her daily routine and patiently waiting for the doctors’ next decisions. April 14, 2026

The beginning of a dramatic road
Marzena was diagnosed with the disease in November 2024. That's when the first specimens were taken for testing. Symptoms in the form of heavy bleeding, abdominal pain and exhaustion, which had been building up for months, began to form an alarming whole.
On December 22, 2024, came the most difficult confirmation possible: the histopathological result showed malignant cancer. From that moment on, every next step became part of a process that required immediate intervention.
The results confirmed vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, HPV-positive, stage G2, with infiltration 3.5 mm deep and LVSI and Pn1 features. The condition was defined as stage IB according to the FIGO classification.
Surgical treatment and test results
During the procedure, a lesion measuring 3.2 × 2.9 × 0.3 cm was removed, and lymph nodes from both axillae were submitted for analysis. On the right side, no metastasis was found in the five sampled nodes, while one lymph node measuring 1.2 cm was found on the left side, which also bore no signs of neoplastic involvement. In addition, chronic inflammatory reactions were found.
In March 2025, Marzena was readmitted to the Institute to prepare for further treatment, including radiation therapy. The consultation included an assessment of her general condition, additional laboratory tests and planning of therapy to reduce the risk of disease recurrence.
Marzena's treatment is also accompanied by a number of co-morbidities that put additional strain on the body and hinder daily functioning: hypertension, spinal disease, dermatological conditions, bronchial asthma and chronic pain. Each of these requires parallel specialized care and makes it difficult to recover fully from operations.
Everyday life requires tremendous strength
Despite treatment, Marzena's condition has recently deteriorated. Her symptoms are reminiscent of those before the treatment, which raises great anxiety about the further course of the disease.
The most difficult aspect is that the next follow-up appointment has not been set until April 2026, which means many months of waiting in pain and uncertainty.
Marzena lives in Wolomin and spends most of her time on the road between her home and the Warsaw Institute. Treatment, follow-up appointments, specialist consultations and recovery require forces that try to slip away every day.
Marzena needs support
Cancer treatment is not just hospital procedures. It's also a cost that grows every week: medications, transportation to specialized centers, skin care products after radiation therapy, rehabilitation, consultations, check-ups and daily needs that don't go away in the face of the disease.
Since October 2024, Marzena has been living in pain and uncertainty, trying to reconcile the need for treatment with anxiety about what the next day will bring and whether there will be enough money for her basic needs.
Usually illness enters a person's life unannounced, leaving them in a place that requires strength greater than they can carry alone. Marzena faces this road every day.
