Suspected migraine

The onset of the illness did not foreshadow such a serious diagnosis. The headache could easily be attributed to fatigue, stress, or the pressures of everyday life. Painkillers provided only temporary relief, and the symptoms returned. Over time, the pain became increasingly difficult to bear.
Martin decided to consult a doctor about his symptoms. Initially, specialists suspected a migraine. It was only further diagnostic testing that provided the answer.
A brain tumor—an astrocytoma—was diagnosed

A bumpy road

In early 2025, everything moved quickly. Martin faced some very difficult decisions. On January 20, he underwent surgery to remove the tumor. A craniotomy was performed on the right frontotemporal region, and the tumor was removed using modern surgical techniques. It was a line between fear and hope that had to be crossed. However, the treatment did not end with the surgery.
The next stage was proton radiation therapy—precise and demanding—and chemotherapy with temozolomide, which severely weakened Martin’s body.

The Silent Enemy

Soon another challenge arose—postoperative epilepsy. Every day, Martin was on high alert; every worrying symptom filled him with fear. During that time, he was learning to live anew with the shadow of the disease, balancing between fear and the desire for normality.

Daily life in the shadow of illness

Martin lives with his wife and 2-year-old son in a rented apartment. What matters most to him is being there for his son and spending time with his family. These moments give meaning to everyday life, which now requires much more strength than before due to his illness. Because of his illness, he is no longer able to work as he did before.
The lack of a steady income has become a serious challenge for the entire family, which now relies mainly on benefits and support from loved ones.

What helps

One of Martin’s long-standing passions has been aviation, particularly military aviation. Air shows and everything related to airplanes have always fascinated him. Today, his life is largely dictated by doctor’s appointments, medical tests, and ongoing treatment decisions. For Martin, every day now begins with something very simple: an attempt to preserve at least a fragment of normalcy.

Help needed

Cancer treatment is a long process that requires not only time but also financial resources, which have become a significant burden for this family. Martin needs support now so he can continue his treatment and ensure his family’s well-being.

Illness causes life to take a different turn without asking for permission. In moments like these, the presence and attentiveness of another person are priceless.
