A diagnosis that came out of the blue
Maria had no obvious, alarming symptoms—just more frequent infections and a cough. The enlarged lymph nodes were discovered entirely by chance on a CT scan performed as part of a completely different diagnostic procedure at the hospital. Further tests led to a serious diagnosis: advanced-stage adenocarcinoma of the right lung.
A treatment that required tremendous perseverance
Maria underwent radical radiation therapy combined with chemotherapy, followed by additional treatment cycles and several months of immunotherapy. This journey has not been easy, as she experienced complications such as esophagitis and radiation pneumonitis, and the chemotherapy infusions left her very weak. However, there is a strong reason for hope: follow-up tests have shown that the tumors are shrinking. The latest results showed a slight enlargement of certain lymph nodes, so Maria remains under close observation, and doctors are considering further steps depending on the results of upcoming tests.
A disease that doesn't come on its own
Cancer treatment isn’t the only thing Maria has to deal with. She also suffers from asthma, thyroid disease, and other conditions that further complicate her daily life and the course of her treatment. All of this means that even the simplest tasks require a tremendous amount of effort on her part these days.
The family that supports her
The illness has robbed Maria of her job and much of her former independence. The hardest days are often the ordinary ones, when she has to find the strength to get up and climb the stairs to her apartment, which has no elevator. In those moments, the support of her loved ones is invaluable: her household members try to lighten her load, and her family is her greatest source of support. It is her loved ones who help her keep moving forward despite everything.
A passion that brings respite
Despite her illness, Maria cherishes the things that bring her joy, and her passion is crocheting. These are the moments when she can take a brief break from her treatment and feel that she is creating something of her own, with her own hands.
Let's help Maria regain her strength
The funds raised will go toward non-reimbursable medications and rehabilitation, which will allow Maria to gradually regain her mobility. Every donation means one less worry for her and a real chance to focus on her recovery—so that those ordinary stairs to the fourth floor will no longer be a daily obstacle. Let’s help her regain her strength and return to a life where there will once again be room for peace and small joys.
