The diagnosis that came suddenly
The first symptoms appeared in early November 2025: swollen and painful gums, loss of appetite, and gradual weight loss. Over time, the symptoms worsened, prompting further diagnostic testing. On November 20, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. From that moment on, Marek’s life—and that of his entire family—became centered on the fight for his health.
Treatment that offered no respite
Mark’s journey through treatment was exceptionally difficult and intense. After the first round of chemotherapy, he went into remission, but just before his scheduled transplant, the disease relapsed in his bone marrow and central nervous system, affecting his spine. Since then, doctors have resorted to increasingly advanced treatment methods, including targeted therapies and repeated injections of medication directly into the spinal canal. Each of these stages led to a regression of the lesions, but the disease still would not subside. Treatment was further complicated by severe infections, profound bone marrow suppression, and the need for numerous transfusions. Marek is currently under the care of the Hematology Clinic in Gdańsk, where he has reached the most critical stage: a bone marrow transplant from a compatible family donor, which offers a chance for long-term remission of the disease.
The whole family is by his side as they face this new reality
Before his illness, Marek was the family’s main breadwinner. Intensive treatment completely prevented him from working, leaving the family without a steady source of income, while at the same time they faced very high costs for treatment, hospitalization, and travel to a specialized center. The hardest part, however, is the separation. Marek has a wife and four children who are particularly affected by his absence and the uncertainty about the future. The whole family actively supports him every step of the way—in organizing his treatment, transportation, and daily life—trying to stay together despite everything.
Everyday life, which requires a tremendous amount of effort
The illness and its treatment have left a lasting mark on Marek’s body. He suffers from chronic fatigue, weakness, and lower-limb paresis, which significantly limits his mobility. Due to his very low immunity, he must avoid contact with others, and even basic activities now require a great deal of effort and often the help of his loved ones. Despite this, Marek refuses to give up and continues to fight with determination to regain his health.
Let's help Mark get through his transplant safely
The funds raised will help cover the most critical and demanding stage—the transplant and recovery period—which will require intensive care, frequent medical tests, medication, and rehabilitation.
Every donation gives Marek a real chance to focus on one thing—getting through the transplant safely and recovering, so he can return to his wife and four children, who are waiting for him more than anyone else.
