The headache revealed a dramatic truth.

Maksym began complaining of headaches accompanied by vomiting and sudden weakness. He was losing strength day by day. He didn't eat or drink and couldn't get out of bed. His parents took him to the hospital, where he underwent preliminary tests and was admitted to the pediatric ward. A CT scan revealed changes that left no doubt. A tumor was detected in the boy's brain.

Maksym was transported to neurosurgery. Time was of the essence. In December 2024, he underwent urgent, five-hour life-saving surgery.

He then spent two days in intensive care before gradually regaining his strength.

After twenty-eight days, a detailed diagnosis arrived. The histopathology results confirmed medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor originating in the germ cells of the cerebellum.

The first months of treatment

On January 19, 2025, exactly one month after the surgery, the first cycle of chemotherapy began. In the following weeks, Maksym underwent four cycles of chemotherapy and three blood transfusions. The family's life was organized solely around his treatment and ensuring his safety.

From April 24 to June 11, the boy underwent proton therapy in Bronowice. The therapy was a huge physical burden for him, yet he endured it silently and with extraordinary patience. Complications arose shortly after the treatment. During treatment in Krakow , the Broviac catheter became infected, requiring immediate removal of the intravenous access. Allergic reactions that occurred during therapy caused his parents anxiety each time.

Complications in treatment

After returning home, it seemed that the situation was beginning to stabilize. A high fever lasting almost ten days once again robbed Maksym of his strength and appetite. In July, a vascular port was inserted, but complications arose that required additional surgery. Despite these difficulties, treatment continued as planned, although each day required readiness for new challenges.

Back to school and living under the care of doctors

In September, Maksym returned to individualized learning. He enjoys online lessons, especially math problems and creative work. They are teaching him to slowly regain the rhythm of life that was taken away from him for so long.
The boy is currently undergoing his fourth cycle of maintenance chemotherapy. His health requires constant monitoring, regular checkups, and great care.

Family drama

Maxim's story does not begin with illness. It begins with war and the loss of his home. In 2020, his parents bought their dream house. Two years later, they had to flee. Just when it seemed that nothing else could break them, their beloved son fell ill.
In March 2025, they learned that their home had been completely destroyed.

Maksym is a sensitive, calm, and extremely intelligent child. He loves LEGO, drawing, books, and his dog Obi. He has an older sister and a younger brother, who are his closest world and source of strength. Every day, he faces his illness with quiet but extraordinary courage.

Every form of support becomes a silent gesture for Maksym, allowing him to get closer to the life interrupted by his illness. That life is still waiting for him, intact in its value, ready to welcome him back as soon as he regains his strength.

Your help can make this journey less harsh, adding a little light to a place where everyday life can be too demanding for an eight-year-old child.
