A time of uncertainty

While out shopping with her family, Maja suddenly fainted. The very next day, she was in the emergency room, where initial tests showed that her body was no longer functioning properly.

The doctors ordered basic blood tests, the results of which were alarming— her hemoglobin level was very low. A decision was quickly made to give her a blood transfusion, which helped Maja regain some strength. She also began to experience heart problems. The doctors acted quickly, but the prognosis was still unclear.

First a suspicion, then silence and a change of direction

Further tests conducted in Wrocław ruled out that possibility. A different diagnosis emerged: aplastic anemia.

Although the diagnosis was hard to accept, it also provided a roadmap for further treatment and hope that, with the right therapy, Maja would be able to return to a normal life.

Waiting doesn't bring peace of mind; it just raises new questions

A few weeks later, Maja underwent another bone marrow test. The results were hard to accept; her bone marrow wasn’t functioning properly. The results confirmed serious abnormalities in its function. This period brought no relief. It brought more decisions and the need to accept that answers don’t come right away.

Finally, the moment had come when the doctors could begin the actual treatment. First, an infusion of immunoglobulins, followed by a planned 30-day treatment cycle. Only after it is completed will we know how her body has responded to the treatment and what the next steps will be. Despite all the stress, there was a glimmer of hope that Maja would recover.

Concern, fear, and love

When Maja’s treatment began, the whole family had to come to terms with their new reality. Mom took medical leave so she could be with her daughter every day. Dad continues to work and takes care of Maja’s siblings—her twin sister Ola and older brother Wiktor. Each of them is bravely trying to adjust to the new daily routine, filled with uncertainty and concern for Maja.

Small pleasures

Maja always found joy in small, creative pleasures. She eagerly built with Lego bricks. She was equally passionate about art classes. That was when she could let her imagination run wild. Paints, paper, and other materials were an invitation to create a work of art. Another of her passions was dancing. Every step or turn gave her a sense of freedom.

Every bit of support is incredibly important

Now that life is full of uncertainty and fear, the family cherishes every moment they spend together. Every day is a struggle for Maja, but it also brings hope for a return to normal life.

Every bit of support helps ensure continuity of care. In practice, it is this continuity that determines the effectiveness of the entire treatment.
