A Visit to the Doctor
It all started in January 2024, when my skin began to itch intensely, I experienced severe dizziness, and I started having nosebleeds. My condition was very concerning, so I went to see a doctor shortly thereafter.
The blood count results were alarming. They indicated thrombocytosis. I remember that after that, everything happened very quickly. I received one referral after another.
Diagnosis, Treatment, and Complications
Shortly afterward, I received the diagnosis I had been so afraid to hear: polycythemia vera.
I remember it as if it were yesterday. I didn’t know exactly what that diagnosis meant or how much it would change my life. I had more questions than answers, and the uncertainty was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to face.
Since my diagnosis, I have undergone many different treatments. I am currently waiting for my next course of Pegasys. Unfortunately, these treatments have been accompanied by many side effects, including severe arrhythmia, depression, anxiety, memory and concentration problems, and collapse.
Daily challenges
I am currently at home, where my husband and daughter help me every day, for which I am immensely grateful. Due to severe joint pain, I have to use crutches and require constant assistance when moving around.
Ordinary, everyday activities that I used to do without a second thought have now become difficult and require much more effort on my part. What used to come naturally is now sometimes a challenge that I have to overcome step by step.
Small Passions
However, I find moments of respite from my illness in books, which allow me to escape to other worlds. Then, for a moment, I stop thinking about my limitations.
The music of my favorite artists has the same effect on me. It can soothe me, give me strength, and remind me that, despite the difficulties, I still haven't given up.
Fighting the Disease
Every day I spend living with this illness is not only a struggle to stay healthy, but also a struggle to function normally. Treatment involves very high costs, which become an increasingly heavy burden with each passing month. I also need specialized rehabilitation equipment, which gives me a chance to improve my quality of life.
That is why today I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt request for your support. Every donation, every time you share my story, and every act of kindness gives me a chance to continue my treatment.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for every act of kindness shown to me.
