Abdominal pain
It all started with a stomachache. Our son, Kornel, was complaining of pain that wouldn’t go away. With every passing hour, our anxiety grew. We sensed that something was wrong, though we didn’t yet know just how much our lives were about to change.
We ended up at the hospital in Legnica. At first, the doctors suspected appendicitis or a hernia. However, tests ruled out both possibilities. Instead of answers, more questions arose. A CT scan revealed a mass in the abdominal cavity of unknown origin.
Waiting for the next test results was incredibly difficult. The days passed in uncertainty, and Kornel’s condition began to deteriorate. He started experiencing shortness of breath, profuse sweating, and abdominal bloating. We looked at our son and felt a helplessness that cannot be put into words.
Diagnosis
Soon after, Kornel was taken to Przylądek Nadziei in Wrocław. There, he underwent a series of specialized tests. An ultrasound revealed that fluid was accumulating in the pleural cavity at a very rapid rate. It was necessary to perform immediate drainage of the right lung.
Those were some of the hardest moments of our lives. Every hour seemed to drag on forever.
Shortly afterward, we received the diagnosis: Type B Burkitt lymphoma.
Treatment
The doctors quickly began treatment. Kornel showed remarkable strength and courage. His body responded well to chemotherapy, giving us our first glimmer of hope after many days of fear and uncertainty.
Kornel is still in the hospital today. His treatment is ongoing, and we still have a long road ahead of us. Every day brings new challenges, but also hope that our son will recover and be able to enjoy his childhood again—free from pain, hospital rooms, and more tests.
Passions
Not long ago, Kornel’s days were filled with the passions he loved with all his heart. He played the drums, trained in taekwondo, and was developing his skills in handball. He was a boy bursting with energy who couldn’t sit still.
Today, his daily life looks completely different. Instead of practices, games, and time with his peers, there are hospital rooms, tests, and treatment. It’s a difficult reality for a child who just wants to get back to what he loves most.
Support
I can't go back to work today because I spend every day with my son. Kornel's dad works to provide for us, but the costs of his treatment keep going up.
We wholeheartedly ask for your support. Every bit of help and every kind word give us the strength to keep fighting. Thank you for being with us on this difficult journey.
