The MRI was supposed to explain the worrying symptoms. Instead of the answers we were hoping for, it brought a diagnosis that changed everything. A few days later, Klara had already undergone surgery. It seemed that the hardest part was behind us. Unfortunately, her condition took a sudden turn for the worse.

Diagnosis

On November 16, 2022, we received the diagnosis: medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor. A few days later, my little girl underwent surgery at the Pediatric Neurosurgery Clinic in Szczecin. She was brought out of anesthesia as planned and was conscious, but her condition deteriorated after a few hours.

The doctors diagnosed acute hydrocephalus and diffuse cerebral ischemia. A postoperative complication was an ischemic stroke, which left him with very severe aftereffects.

The next fight

Since her stroke, Klara has been struggling with quadriplegia, bulbar syndrome, dysphagia, aphasia, and dysarthria. She has difficulty speaking, swallowing, and functioning independently. She has undergone numerous procedures and surgeries. She had a ventricular shunt implanted, followed by a ventriculoperitoneal shunt and a gastrostomy. In October 2024, a tracheotomy was also necessary. All of this means that Klara requires constant, very attentive care around the clock.

The treatment was long and very taxing

The cancer treatment was long, difficult, and exhausting. Today, our daily life revolves primarily around care, rehabilitation, medical checkups, and the fight to help Klara regain as much mobility as possible. Every day requires a tremendous amount of effort.

We can't be together

Because of her frequent hospital stays, we had to rent an apartment in Szczecin. Klara lives here with me and my mom. Our family home is in Małomice, where Klara’s sister stayed with Dad. Dad comes over on weekends and sometimes during the week, but we live apart on a daily basis. Klara’s illness has pushed everything else into the background: home, work, plans, and everyday life. I had to quit my job because Klara requires round-the-clock care.

Before she got sick, Klara enjoyed traveling, music, building blocks, and cooking. We want her to continue having access to the things that bring her joy, despite the challenges she faces.

Please support me

I am asking for your help for Klara with all my heart. We need funds for her rehabilitation, medical treatment, care, specialized equipment, transportation, daily necessities, and the cost of maintaining our apartment in Szczecin, which allows us to stay close to the hospital and her doctors.

Every donation is a huge help to us in our fight to ensure Klara’s health, safety, and maximum mobility.

Klara needs round-the-clock care. We need strength and support to give her everything she needs to fight this battle every day.
