Update
The next stage of a difficult journey
Józef recently received the results of his PET scan, which he had been anxiously awaiting, trying to maintain his inner calm despite the uncertainty that such waiting inevitably brings. The doctors have decided to continue chemotherapy.
This means that treatment is still ongoing, and the next phase is just beginning.![]()
The weight of the upcoming results
The visit to the ophthalmologist brought more news that only added to Józef’s worries. Macular degeneration and posterior pole degeneration were diagnosed in his left eye. This is yet another area that now needs attention. In a short period of time, Joseph had to deal with several difficult pieces of news all at once, which have caused him and his family anxiety and uncertainty. This is the moment when support becomes an important part of this journey, both for Józef and his loved ones. March 23, 2026

The beginning did not foreshadow the drama
The abdominal pain, initially only sporadic, gradually increased until it became impossible to ignore. It was the end of October 2024. Subsequent imaging tests, consultations, and hospitalization revealed an increasingly disturbing picture, leaving no room for reassuring interpretations.
The first tissue sample taken in December did not provide a clear answer. It was not until January 2025, after a fragment of a lymph node was taken from the peritoneal cavity and a histopathological examination was performed, that the diagnosis was confirmed. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, stage IV according to the Ann Arbor classification.
Treatment without simple answers
The hospitalization, which began in December 2024, lasted for weeks. Generalized lymphadenopathy, cancer cachexia, erosive gastropathy, and severe pain required intensive pharmacological treatment, including the use of opioid drugs.
In February 2025, chemotherapy was started according to the R CHOP regimen. The first two cycles proceeded in a state of relative stability and were well tolerated. The third cycle had to be interrupted due to dramatic complications. Septic shock in the course of pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, cachexia, bedsores, metabolic disorders, and type 2 diabetes led to extreme exhaustion. During this first bout of sepsis, Józef was so ravaged by the disease that he weighed only 40 kilograms. His body was at the limit of its biological endurance.
After recovery from the acute condition, treatment was continued, but the disease persisted. A PET CT scan performed in June 2025 showed metabolically active lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm, peritoneal infiltrates, and lytic lesions in the Th11 vertebral body.
More diagrams and more attempts
A decision was made to change the treatment strategy. In August 2025 , R-DHAP chemotherapy was administered. The brief period of stabilization was interrupted by another hospitalization, this time due to severe sepsis caused by Gram-negative bacteria and septic pneumonia caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This was compounded by paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and progressive weakness of the body.
Since October 2025,Józef has been undergoing treatment with a new drug called Epkorytamab. He is currently in his fourth cycle of therapy. The treatment is well tolerated, and another PET scan is planned in the near future to see if there is a real response to the therapy.
The family that took on the burden
The illness completely changed Józef's life and that of his loved ones. As the breadwinner of the family, he had to give up his job and accept dependence on his wife and daughters. For a long time, he required almost round-the-clock care.
Each member of the family experienced this situation in their own way, but no one gave up. His loved ones support him in his treatment, drive him to doctor's appointments, and help him with everyday activities. This support is invaluable, but it cannot replace the resources that the disease is systematically taking away.
Daily life in the shadow of illness
Józef stays at home on a daily basis and goes to the hospital for chemotherapy. He gets tired quickly, has significantly limited mobility, and his deteriorating eyesight means that he is unable to travel to medical appointments on his own. Every trip requires the help of his wife or daughters.
The biggest challenge was maintaining what remained of my physical abilities and mental balance in a situation where the disease offered no sense of stability or predictability.
The family is asking for help.
Treatment of advanced-stage lymphoma requires care in every area of life. It generates enormous costs related to medication, travel, rehabilitation, and psychological care. When the main source of income is lost, everyday life begins to resemble a constant choice between needs, none of which are less important than the others. It is also a struggle for Józef's own mental survival.
To get up every day and keep fighting, you need support.
