Diagnosis
In February 2026, he was admitted to the Department of Pediatrics, Oncology, and Pediatric Immunology at the University Clinical Hospital in Szczecin, where doctors diagnosed him with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
This is an aggressive form of lymphoma that requires immediate treatment.
Jakub was hospitalized from February 23 to March 25, 2026. During this time, he began intensive treatment according to the Inter B-NHL 2010 oncology treatment protocol. The first stage of treatment involved chemotherapy according to the COP and R-COPAD protocols. This is a very demanding treatment aimed at halting the progression of the disease and preparing the body for subsequent stages of therapy.
During the hospital stay, treatment-related complications also arose, including stomatitis and gastrointestinal problems.
He's completed the first stage
Jakub has now spent over a month in the hospital and completed the first round of chemotherapy. It has been an extremely difficult and physically exhausting time.
Jakub is now back home, but his immune system remains very weak. His daily routine requires special care, and contact with others must be kept to an absolute minimum. Any infection, even one that seems harmless, could pose a serious threat to his health.
Daily Life After the Diagnosis
When such a serious illness enters a family’s life, requiring full commitment to treatment, everyday life has to be rebuilt from scratch. Loved ones face difficult decisions. One of them was giving up a job. Jakub’s mother made this decision so she could constantly be there for her son during his treatment and care. This means a loss of steady income at a time when expenses related to the illness are skyrocketing.
Younger brother
Jakub isn’t the only child in the family. He has a younger brother, Hubert, who is 5 years old and has childhood autism. The boy attends a therapeutic preschool and requires special care.
Even before this, his mother was unable to work full-time due to his needs. Now, with her older son’s illness, the situation has become even more difficult.
Request for help
Jakub’s mother never imagined she would have to ask for help. Today, she is doing so solely for her child, who faces further stages of treatment and a long road to recovery.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for every bit of help, every share, and every kind word.”
