For two years, Ernest tried to find an answer to the question of why his body was failing him more and more. It all began with a sudden fainting spell at home in May 2023. However, subsequent tests did not provide a clear answer, and changes in his brain were long interpreted as white matter atrophy. It wasn’t until a private consultation in 2025 that the truth was revealed, a truth that would forever change Ernest’s life and that of his loved ones.
The diagnosis after many months of uncertainty
In August 2025, during a private visit to Bydgoszcz, a brain tumor was suspected. Shortly thereafter, a biopsy was performed, which confirmed the worst-case scenario—grade IV glioblastoma.
It is one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer. For Ernest and his family, it was a devastating blow, especially after two years of living in uncertainty and searching for the right diagnosis.
Surgery and very demanding treatment
On September 3, 2025, a biopsy was performed, and a month later, Ernest underwent an extremely difficult awake surgery at the Military Hospital in Bydgoszcz. Following the procedure, he began intensive radiation therapy and a six-week course of chemotherapy.
Ernest is currently participating in a specialized Phase III clinical trial for the treatment of glioblastoma. The therapy involves, among other things, the use of the Optune TTFields device, which he must wear for at least 18 hours a day. While this treatment offers hope, it also has a significant impact on his daily life.
The illness robbed him of the chance to live a normal life
The cancer affected every aspect of Ernest’s life. He developed mild aphasia, suffered from daily headaches, and faced enormous difficulties due to the need to use the Optune device constantly. Even the simplest tasks became a challenge.
Ernest also lost his job. He is currently receiving rehabilitation benefits, and the family’s financial situation has deteriorated significantly. Despite everything, his loved ones try to support him every day and help him get through his treatment as best they can.
The passion that gave him strength
Before his illness, Ernest made custom furniture. It was not only his job, but above all a great passion and a way for him to express himself. He also loved traveling, hiking in the mountains, and visiting castles. An active life and the opportunity to create gave him a sense of freedom and fulfillment. Today, his greatest dream is to stop the progression of his illness and regain at least some of his former daily life.
The fight for continued treatment
Ernest’s greatest hope is the possibility of continuing Optune therapy after the clinical trial ends, as well as access to modern treatment methods, including immunotherapy abroad. Unfortunately, the costs of such therapy are enormous—commercial treatment with the Optune device can cost as much as 120,000 zlotys per month.
The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of ongoing treatment, travel to the Oncology Center in Bydgoszcz, accommodation, nutritional supplements, and potential treatment abroad. We ask for your support for Ernest. Every contribution gives him a better chance to continue his treatment and keep fighting this extremely aggressive cancer.
