The diagnosis that came as a sudden shock to the family

On December 28, 2025, after playing with his older brother, Dominik began complaining of a stomachache. The next day, the same thing happened as he was leaving preschool. His parents decided to take him to the emergency room. An ultrasound revealed a mass in his ectopic kidney. Doctors suspected a tumor in the right kidney. A CT scan confirmed their worst fears. The diagnosis was devastating: stage IV Wilms’ tumor (nephroblastoma) with metastases to the lungs. For his parents, the world stopped in an instant.

The fight began immediately

Dominik was quickly admitted for specialized treatment at the “Pomnik – Children’s Health Center” Institute in Warsaw. Preoperative chemotherapy was initiated first, and on February 22, 2026, the boy underwent a radical nephrectomy, or the removal of the diseased kidney. However, this is only the beginning of a very difficult journey. Dominik is currently being treated according to the 2016 SIOP Umbrella Protocol for stage IV disease and an intensive HR regimen consisting of 12 cycles of chemotherapy. He has already completed three of them. The treatment causes serious complications, including pancytopenia and severe physical weakness. Check-ups at the hospital are necessary every few days, and further hospitalizations are required if his condition worsens.

The illness robbed him of his childhood

Even before his diagnosis, Dominik was struggling with motor aphasia and speech development disorders. His cancer has made his daily life even more difficult. He doesn’t go to preschool. He has to avoid contact with his peers, playrooms, swimming pools, and many activities that come naturally to children his age. Chemotherapy and isolation also greatly affect his behavior. He can be hyperactive, irritable, and confused by this new reality, which he simply doesn’t understand. Despite everything, he still loves cars, building blocks, and playing with his brother. He continues to try to enjoy his childhood as best as he can.

The family struggles every day

The family’s entire life has revolved around Dominik’s treatment. His mother cares for her son around the clock and stays by his side during his hospital stays. His father works to provide for the family, manage daily life, and support both of his sons during this incredibly difficult time. Dominik’s older brother, six-year-old Adaś, is also deeply affected by this—he worries about his little brother every day and asks if he will get better. At the same time, the family had to face yet another tragedy: the death of the boys’ grandmother. All of this has turned this family’s daily life into a constant struggle for health, safety, and at least a little bit of normalcy.

Dominik needs continued support

After completing his intensive cancer treatment, Dominik will require further, long-term therapy and specialized care. His parents want to do everything they can to ensure that, despite his illness, he has the chance to grow, reclaim his childhood, and find his place in the world without constant fear or hospital rooms. The funds raised will be used, among other things, for:

  • medical treatment and travel to hospitals,
  • speech therapy and psychological therapy,
  • sensory integration,
  • neurological, ophthalmological, and otolaryngological consultations,
  • rehabilitation,
  • educational and sensory aids to support Dominik's development,
  • the family's daily life during treatment.

Please support Dominik. Every donation not only helps with his treatment, but also gives this little boy a chance to one day return to a world free from pain, fear, and the daily grind of hospital life.
