Update
Unfortunately the recurrence...
After completing treatment, Damian remained under constant follow-up at IMiD. During a follow-up visit held on August 19, Doctors detected alarming changes in the lungs, which confirmed the recurrence of the disease. Shortly thereafter, emphysema appeared in the right lung, and a few days later in the left lung as well. It was necessary to place drains and perform a thoracotomy of the right lung, during which the The neoplastic lesions were removed. The histopathological result confirmed the presence of cancer cells. Currently, Damian receives one-day chemotherapy, followed by a one-week break after two cycles, and receives immunotherapy every three weeks. After the first cycle of chemotherapy underwent another thoracotomy, this time on the left lung, where the cancerous lesions were also removed. Although treatment is extremely difficult, Damian is fighting for his health with great determination, remaining under the constant care of doctors and loved ones. October 27, 2025Changes removed, but vigilance remains
Two major surgeries are behind Damian. In February he underwent a thoracotomy of the left lung, during which as many as fourteen lesions were removed. Seven of them were cancerous. In March came the right lung, where four lesions were removed, including one malignant one. Both surgeries ended without complications.Completion of chemotherapy cycle and first tests
In late May, Damian received his last dose of chemotherapy. Imaging studies - CT scan and PET scan - showed no new disease foci. One lesion in the right lung remains for observation, but does not require intervention at this point. The next step: targeted therapy and rehabilitation
Currently, Damian is waiting to be contacted by his attending physician regarding the implementation of targeted therapy. To this end, he has already undergone the necessary ophthalmological examination, which is required before the treatment can be included. For the past month, he has also been learning to function with his first prosthesis - a cosmetic one that lacks function, but is necessary for the adaptation process. Damian has more months of rehabilitation and supportive treatment ahead. Every piece of good news is a step toward greater peace of mind, although daily life still requires patience, strength and financial support. June 18, 2025

The disease hidden behind the fracture
He was taken to the hospital with pain in his hand. He thought it was just an unfortunate fracture - nothing that couldn't be fixed with a cast and time. The doctors took an X-ray, confirmed the injury... and went silent. They saw something else in the image. A shadow that could not be ignored. An MRI, a CT scan and a biopsy were ordered in succession. The diagnosis came quickly - too quickly to prepare for it: osteosarcoma. Malignant cancer of the humerus bone.
More traces of the disease were found in the lungs
Imaging studies to determine the extent of the disease revealed further outbreaks. Lesions were spotted in Damian's lungs that could indicate metastasis. Although they were considered inactive, their mere presence was enough to take the situation seriously. The entire treatment plan was changed. Doctors indicated the need to include chemotherapy. This was the first stage - difficult, aggravating, but necessary to gain time and a chance for further decisions.
Before the chemo had time to take effect, the tumor moved on
After two weeks of treatment, swelling appeared in the shoulder area. Doctors again ordered an X-ray and an MRI. The results left no doubt - not only did the cancer not go away, but it was clearly growing. Treatment did not bring the expected results. The decision about what to do next matured in silence, until it was finally spoken aloud. Amputation of the entire left arm including the shoulder joint was the only chance to stop the disease. The lung lesions remained stable, allowing the surgery to be scheduled.
Next steps in treatment
After the amputation, Damian returned to chemotherapy. Nine infusions remain in the treatment plan. Doctors are also considering surgery to remove lesions from one lung. Further decisions will depend on the results of follow-up tests. Everything is playing out in stages and constant caution.
Independence that comes at a price
In parallel, the struggle for everyday life continues. Damian needs support not only for further treatment, but also for commuting to the hospital, specialized diet, supplements, rehabilitation and prostheses. To begin with, it will be necessary to purchase a cosmetic prosthesis to help Damian adjust to life with a prosthesis. The cost of such a prosthesis is about 35 thousand zlotys.
Ultimately, the plan is to purchase an advanced functional prosthesis that will make daily life easier and allow him to regain his independence. Unfortunately, the cost of such a solution may reach up to 300 thousand zlotys.
