A diagnosis that came out of nowhere
Beata went in for a follow-up breast exam because of cysts that had been detected earlier. There was no indication that something much more serious lay behind the routine ultrasound. Initial suspicions arose at the local hospital, and on March 9 in Białystok, the diagnosis was confirmed: HER2-positive breast cancer, stage III, with metastases to the lymph nodes.
Treatment plan broken down by month
Beata is currently undergoing chemotherapy, which she receives every three weeks, along with anti-HER2 targeted therapy. The full treatment plan includes six cycles of chemotherapy, followed by surgery to remove the tumors—one in her breast and three in her lymph nodes—and finally radiation therapy. Each cycle takes a toll on her well-being: she experiences muscle and bone pain, severe nausea, vomiting, stomach problems, and extreme fatigue.
A disease that doesn't come on its own
Cancer treatment isn’t the only thing Beata is dealing with. For years, she has also been struggling with spinal degeneration, acid reflux, asthma, and an umbilical hernia. These conditions further hinder her daily functioning and complicate her treatment.
Everyday Life Measured in Kilometers
Her illness imposed many restrictions on her, and hygiene measures and isolation became a constant part of her life.
Beata spends her days at home, but her treatment requires regular trips to a hospital 120 kilometers away. She is never alone on these trips, as her loving sons and husband take turns driving her there. She is very grateful for their support. Her granddaughter also brings her a lot of joy.
A passion that brings respite
Despite everything, Beata tries to nurture what she loves. Her great passion is handicrafts, and she loves to pick up her crochet hook whenever she feels well enough to do so. It is these moments that allow her to escape her illness, if only for a moment.
Let's help Beata get through her treatment
The funds raised will be used for medications, dietary supplements, transportation to the hospital, rehabilitation, and non-reimbursable treatments. Every donation brings Beata one step closer to the end of her treatment and gives her something priceless: the peace of mind she needs to focus on her recovery and return to her daily life.
