The burden of diagnosis
Healthy, active, always on the move - Aneta lived a quiet rhythm in which daily life was defined by work, home, son, chores and moments of respite at the pool or gym.
In November 2024, the first alarming symptom appeared -a hemorrhage that broke this apparent balance. A series of tests, consultations and misdiagnoses began. For months, doctors were unable to pinpoint the cause. It was only a biopsy that brought the result that provided the answer - malignant neoplasm of the cervix in the third stage, with metastasis to the lymph nodes.
Aneta remembers the date exactly - July 29, a day that coincided with the anniversary of her dad's death.
"The world collapsed," she recalls. However, a tremendous will to fight immediately followed. In her head she started repeating one phrase: "I have to win, because I have someone to live for."
Every day has become a struggle
Treatment has begun at the Rydygier Hospital in Krakow. The plan includes radiation therapy, chemotherapy and brachytherapy - words that sounded foreign not long ago now accompany her every day.
For the duration of her treatment, Aneta has taken up residence in a hospital hotel, away from home and her beloved son, Gabriel. They meet only on weekends, if health permits. Too infrequently and for too short a time to satiate the longing.
For both of them, this is a huge emotional challenge. Always inseparable, today they have to learn to live at a distance. Longing is mixed with fear, but also with immense love, which gives them strength. Aneta is supported by her siblings. Her parents are no longer there, so they stick together - strong, though tired, united in care and hope.
Fear for tomorrow
The illness forced Aneta to give up her job. All plans - those near and those far away - went into a drawer marked "for later."
Only that it's "later" that raises the greatest fear today. The uncertainty of tomorrow is sometimes paralyzing.
"The biggest challenge is not to torment ourselves with thoughts of what could happen in the worst case," says Aneta.
She rejected outside advice that contributes nothing. She quieted herself to hear her own voice - the one that says: "You can do it."
Because Aneta wants to live! She wants to be able to return to her beloved son.
