Explore the history of
An inconspicuous beginning that stopped the world
It was already so close... It was supposed to be a family vacation, peaceful and well-deserved. A moment to breathe, recharge the batteries, time just for them.
Just for peace of mind, they were still to check that strange bite on Zosia's leg from which her leg was swollen - and wonderful carefreeness was to return!
But instead of rest came research. Instead of breathing - anxiety. The diagnosis fell suddenly: soft tissue sarcoma - Ewing sarcoma.
In an instant, everything was canceled: summer, carefree and all the beauty of early childhood.
The new reality was in the shape of a hospital bed
Zosia's parents had not yet had time to tame the words they heard in the office, and they were already asleep in the folding chair by her bed. Weeks have passed since then, then months. All this time their little girl has been fighting. Sometimes quietly, sometimes with tears, but most often with a smile that disarms everyone in the ward.
Zosia says "mama" with a venflon in her hand, rolls from her back to her tummy on a hospital mattress, listens to stories while hooked up to an IV.
What for other children is a memory of home, for her happens between parameter checks and dressing changes.
Zosia says "mama" with a venflon in her hand.
She laughs when they change the dressing.
She is learning to walk... in oncology.
A little heroine who does not know the word "enough"
Zosia does not look like a child undergoing cancer treatment. She has a glowing face, alert eyes, curiosity about the world and huge amounts of courage.
She is not afraid of needles, she does not cry at injections, she watches every procedure as if she wants to remember - maybe to be able to help herself someday.
Mom says her daughter has the heart of a warrior and the soul of a doctor. Her siblings - Karola and Krzyś - call her their superhero.
Zosia endures everything with gentleness, as if she understands that it is necessary. And then she smiles again.
Home in a Suitcase. Life in the room
Zosia and her parents are now living in the ward. The stay, which was supposed to last a few days, extended to weeks. Then months. A suitcase with clothes stands somewhere under the bed. In it - home.During this time Zosia is growing. She learns the world through the window and from her parents' stories. She knows that behind the wall there is something other than the sound of pumps and the smell of disinfectants. But she doesn't know it yet.
Zosia's mother very much believes that thanks to treatment, rehabilitation and the support of Good People, she and her daughter will return home soon to enjoy health and a carefree childhood, and remember her stay in the oncology hospital as a certain episode of life, which taught her humility and the fact that one should take handfuls of life and enjoy the small things.
Help Zosia return to where childhood has a taste of home,
Where the word "mom" is not drowned out by the apparatus in the background.
