Ordinary symptoms, unusual danger
It started inconspicuously. Minor infections, pain in the legs and joints, a feverish condition from time to time - such typical symptoms for this time of year.
On December 17, however, the typical turned into alarming! The fever shot up to a dangerous 42°C. Wojtek's entire body was literally in pain. The primary care doctor reassured the parents. Administration of an antibiotic was supposed to work. Meanwhile, day by day, it was getting worse. The boy became increasingly lethargic, lost his appetite, and increasingly complained of dizziness. The sight of a child who was going off day by day was a cause of sleepless nights for his parents. Faced with worsening symptoms, the parents immediately went to the emergency room.
A Christmas Eve not to be forgotten
The results of the tests performed shocked the boy's family. Sepsis was suspected! The decision on the next steps was immediate. Immediately transfer the boy to a medical facility in Wroclaw. More tests and a diagnosis that no one expected: acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
While other homes smelled of Christmas trees, Wojtek lay in a hospital bed. His mother, who was keeping vigil at his bedside, tried to find the strength to tell her beloved child that the toughest fight of his life was about to begin - the fight for life.
Wojtek, who does not give up
From the very first days of his stay in the hospital, aggressive treatment began. The 14-year-old was given chemotherapy and steroids. Each day brought more tests and more doses of medication. Wojtek is suffering. Sometimes he doesn't have the strength to get out of bed, but he fights bravely because he has a goal—he wants to live!
Step by step towards health
Wojtek and his family know full well that there are no shortcuts in this fight. By small steps, he must move forward. These small steps require our support, specifically funds to cover the cost of treatment, rehabilitation, specialized care, travel to medical facilities and specialized diet.
